Kurtis Oakley Obituary
Kurtis Munson Oakley, 65, of Redondo Beach, passed away Sunday May 4, 2014 with his loving wife Laura Oakley and sister-in-law Jodelle Nardini by his side. He was born to the late Theodore and Rosemarie Oakley, July 12, 1948, in Clarksville, Georgia. He enlisted in the Navy June 1967 and was discharged September 1971 after two tours in Vietnam. Kurtis went on to graduate from Long Beach State with a MBA in June 1979. Kurtis made his career in the Aerospace industry, first with TRW then with Northrop Grumman. He retired as Director of Ethics and Business Conduct from Northrop in August 2008 after 30 years. Kurtis is survived by his loving wife Laura of 29 years; eldest son Justin; wife Nicky and youngest son Brett; two grandchildren Scarlett and Hazel; sister Jan Oakley of Georgia; loving nephews and nieces; and many friends. Kurtis and I met a few years ago. We were neighbors walking our labradors. In talking with one another we soon learned we had much more in common, Vietnam vets, NRA, and our dogs. As time passed, we shared something else in common - Cancer. Kurtis and Laura gave me great comfort during my struggle. Then he came down with the disease. We then comforted one another. My wife, Liane, and my daughter, Melissa, became more in tuned to his (and Laura's) struggle as well. He was a fighter! He was a good friend and brother in arms. God rest your soul, Kurtis, and rest assured we shall meet again. I have no doubt.
