L.B. Giles Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 10, 2023.
L.B. Giles, a beloved father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on November 7th, 2023, at the age of 77, after a courageous battle with stomach cancer. He leaves a legacy of love, laughter, and a deep-rooted passion for life.

Born in Hot Springs and raised in Malvern, Arkansas, L.B. spent his early years surrounded by the natural beauty of his hometown. It was in this close-knit community that he discovered his love for football, proudly playing as a defensive tackle for the A.A. Wilson High School football team. Those who knew him during those years remembered his determination and dedication on the field, qualities that would continue to define his character throughout life.

After leaving Malvern, L.B. found his second home in Louisville, Kentucky, where he resided for over 40 years. L.B. took a job at Reynolds Metals Company, where he worked for over 32 years before retiring. He is remembered as a hard worker who made a lasting impression on his coworkers, many of whom he remained close with throughout his life.

Beyond work, LB also had a passion for horse racing. He never missed a Kentucky Derby and could often be found at the racetrack, cheering on his favorite horses with an infectious enthusiasm that was impossible to resist.

Though his love for sports was a significant part of his life, it was L.B.'s culinary talents that truly set him apart. He was renowned as the "best cook ever," and his kitchen was known as a place of warmth and excellence in Southern food.

The most significant source of joy in L.B.'s life was his family. He is survived by his siblings: L.D. Giles (Bernice), Charles, and Faylene, his three children: Eric Giles (Kim) of Atlanta, GA, Melissa Birch, and Brandi Giles, both of Louisville, and a host of other relatives and friends.

L.B. Giles was a remarkable man whose presence lit up every room he entered. His sense of humor, kindness, and generosity will be deeply missed.

Please join us for L.B.'s Memorial service on Wednesday, Nov. 15th, 2023, at Bates Memorial Baptist Church, 620 Lampton St, Louisville, KY 40203. Service will begin at 11 AM.
