JAYASURIYA
(Emeritus Prof Laksiri ):
It is with great regret that I learnt of the passing of Emeritus Professor Jayasuriya on 20 April 2018.
Emeritus Professor Jayasuriya was a key contributor in the development of the WA Charter of Multiculturalism and the State anti-racism strategy. He was passionately involved in the fields of multicultural affairs, social policy and welfare and, in addition to his extensive writing and research on multiculturalism and ethnic affairs policy, he served on numerous government bodies and committees of inquiry.
Apart from his work as Emeritus Professor and Senior Honorary Research Fellow of UWA, he held a variety of academic and public appointments in the UK, USA and Sri Lanka, as well as in Australia.
He was a prolific thinker, communicator and writer, and was driven by his belief in fairness and equality for all.
Emeritus Professor Jayasuriya will be sadly missed but will continue to inspire us through the incomparable legacy of his work and writings.
On behalf of the Premier and Government of Western Australia, I offer my condolences to Emeritus Professor Jayasuriya's family and friends.
