Beaty, Larry of Orlando, passed away on the 4th day of November, 2013. He was born in Belmont, North Carolina, on April 9th, 1933, to the late Forrest Clark and Mary Elizabeth Hedrick Beaty. The family moved to Lake Worth in 1944. After graduating from Lake Worth High School in 1951, he attended Florida State University on a swimming and diving scholarship. In 1954, Larry interrupted his college education to serve in the army and was stationed in Orleans, France. Upon his discharge in 1956, he returned to F.S.U. and graduated in January 1958. Larry left Tallahassee to work as a pharmaceutical representative in Macon, GA; however, he returned to F.S.U. in the spring of 1959 to take graduate courses. That fall he met his future wife, Jane Reid Newsom, in a math class and his path took a different direction. After Jane graduated in August, they were married September 3rd, 1960, and lived in their home on Mills Ave. in Orlando, Florida for most of their 53 blessed years of married life. Larry formed his own insurance agency in 1972 and specialized in horticultural properties representing Florists' Mutual Insurance Company of Edwardsville, IL. He was also an associate of J. Rolfe Davis Insurance Agency, Inc. He retired in 1995. Larry was a Life Loyal Sigma Chi, past member of the Orlando Jaycees and Kiwanis Club, life member of the Citrus Club, a member of the Country Club of Orlando and a member of President's Club of F.S.U. He served as an usher, a member of the Chapter, and on the Endowment Committee of the Cathedral Church of St. Luke. Larry was an ardent reader and historian, especially studying Lewis & Clark, the Civil War, and World War II. He traveled to many points of interest in these areas both in the U.S. and abroad. Larry loved retirement - reading, traveling, his golf buddies, Friday lunch group at Shannon's, birding, working with the IDignity program and being with his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife, Jane, his deeply caring children, Clinton Branch Beaty, and his wife M.K. and Kathryn Elizabeth Beaty Cameron and her husband Cannon; his adored grandchildren, Cooper Branch and Conner Blythe Beaty and Caroline Reid and Claire Elizabeth Cameron. Larry is also survived by his sister, Mary Elizabeth Baldridge, 6 nieces and 7 nephews. He is predeceased by his brother, Forest Clark Beaty, Jr. A Memorial service will be held on Friday, November 8th, at 6:00 p.m. at the Cathedral Church of St. Luke. After the service there will be a reception in the Great Hall adjoining the Cathedral. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Cathedral Church of St. Luke, 130 N. Magnolia Ave., Orlando, FL 32801; IDignity, 424 E. Central Blvd., #199, Orlando, FL 32801; or a charity of your choice. Arrangements will be handled by Carey Hand Colonial Chapel. www.careyhandcolonialfh.com

I had the pleasure of working with Larry during many Idignity events. He was a compassionate, dedicated servant who was always focused on helping clients and encouraging them in their struggles. He was a wonderful man and an inspiration to us all. He will be truly missed.

I first met Larry when Clinton and Kathryn were in grade school. There was never a time when he did not mention them with such love and pride. Later grand-children brought joy and pleasure to him. He set such an example of how a true christian conducts himself. We will all miss him.

What a wonderful man! Larry had a positive spirit and lust for life that never waned. Sarah and I will miss him and pray for the wave of beautiful memories of him to sustain our dear friends Jane, Clint and Katie and their families as they grieve his passing. I will especially remember him and his German interest and enthusiasm as I work with Germany, almost every day.

At the ORMC Wellness Center, Larry introduced himself to me when he noticed my FSU shirt. As we talked I learned he was from Lake Worth, Fl, which is my hometown. Then he asked about my parents and he knew my dad, Kent Smith, from Lake Worth High. The interesting part of the story is that my dad died when I was nine months old and there are not many left who remembered him. I am glad to have met him will try to reflect his friendliness towards others.

Larry was a wonderful person who I enjoyed working with at IDignity. I enjoyed talking with Larry each month about his golf game and his interests in history. He had a great interest in history, especially surrounding the second world war. We will miss you terribly Larry. Our condolences to your lovely wife and children.

Larry Beaty exemplified attributes that make a great person--wisdom, compassion, genuine friendship.
He and Jane were a team for 53+ years, serving their family and their community with love.
We treasure our memories of conversations and activities shared with them, especially during the past few years in New Smyrna Beach.
Our deepest condolences to all the Beaty family.
