Larry Raines Obituary

HAYSI – Larry Warren Raines, age 57, passed away Wednesday, June 6, 2007, at his home.
Born Jan, 16, 1950, he was a son of Ollie and the late Warren Raines. Larry was a retired coal miner for Pittston Coal Co., a disabled U.S. Army Vietnam veteran and member of U.M.W.A Local 7170. Larry was a lifetime member and commanding officer of VFW Onsby Rose Post 3782 for seven years, he was of the Primitive Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Carolyn Raines; two daughters, Melissa (Craig) Robinson of Clintwood and Amy Raines of the home; one son, Larry Phillip (Mendy) Raines of Birchleaf; two grandchildren, Ashley and Logan Raines of Birchleaf; and several foster children that had been cared for in their home especially Pearl Adkins, Jordan LaForce and Benji Fleming. Also surviving are five sisters, Shirley (Gary) Owens and Sylvia Hill, both of Birchleaf, Martha Deel of Prater, Linda (Henry) Edwards of Roanoke, Rita (Gary) Wilson of Council; and two brothers, Ronnie Raines and Donnie (Trish) Raines of Birchleaf.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 9, 2007, at the Haysi Funeral Home, with Elders Jim O'Quinn and Garnell Gilbert officiating. Burial will follow in the Sutherland Cemetery, Birchleaf, with Elder Freddy Ramey with military rites conducted by local VFW Posts.
Pallbearers will be Oland Artrip, Trevor Childress, Terry Woods, Gary Owens, Elmer Wallace, Butch Woods, Lyal Farmer, Craig Robinson, Benji Fleming, Gary Wayne Owens, Tim Raines, Jason Deel, Gary Wilson, Josh Raines, Jason Vance, Tommy Raines and Wally Hill. Honorary pallbearers will be members of VFW Onsby Rose Post 3782 and the men's auxiliary and Norman Mullins.
The family will receive friends after 5 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home with a service at 7 p.m.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Pat Vanover, Dr. Ugwuala Nwauche, Dr. David Pierce, Haysi Rescue Squad and Haysi Funeral Home.
Haysi Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
