Larry Shultz Obituary
WASHBURN - The Rev. Larry R. Shultz, 69, of Donovan, formerly of Washburn, passed away on Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee.
He was born May 24, 1941, in Peoria, the son of Clifford and Helen Coon Shultz. On Jan. 12, 1974, he married the former Roberta "Bobbi" Erwin in Shelbyville. She survives in Donovan.
The Rev. Shultz attended Lowpoint-Washburn schools and St. Paul School of Theology in Kansas City, Mo. Prior to entering the ministry, he worked as a photojournalist and editor for the Metamora Daily Herald for 28 years. The Rev. Shultz served the community as pastor for the Sheldon and Iroquois United Methodist churches after his retirement in 2004.
He was a member of Illinois Great Rivers Conference of the United Methodist Church, past president and 50-year member of the Illinois Gladiola Society and also judged gladiolas for the Illinois State Fair for 50 years straight. He also was a member of the Watchakee Coin Club, founder of West Woodford Drum and Bugle Corps, member of Washburn Lions, member of Golconda Rotary Club and past president of Grant Park District in Washburn.
The Rev. Shultz was active in fundraising for several organizations and the Walk to Emmaus Program. He was a poet, Dixie drummer, avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan, Bradley Braves and Illini basketball fan and Chicago Bears fan and enjoyed gardening, fishing and bowling.
Also surviving the Rev. Shultz are two sons, Tim Shultz of Washburn and Casey Shultz of Paducah, Ky.; and two grandchildren, Brenna Lynn Shultz and Tucker Louis Shultz.
Friends and family are invited to call on Sunday, April 3, 2011, at Baier Funeral Home in Watseka from 3 to 7 p.m. and also on Monday, April 4, 2011, at Washburn United Methodist Church in Washburn from 10:30 a.m. until the funeral service at 12:30 p.m. with the Rev. Virgil Cox and the Rev. Anet Satvedi officiating. Burial will follow in Linn/Mount Vernon Cemetery in Washburn.
Memorials in the Rev. Shultz's name may be made to Grant Park District of Washburn or to the donor's choice.

Roberta, Tim and Casey, there are so many memories that I have of you, the boys and Larry. I remember as a little boy how he took time to see our new piglets that were born as he was on his Pacey Milk route. The endless hours taking pictures for the Leader. The unending time that he gave to others and how he brought a community together for the Good Shepherd deliver of food and gifts to the needy of the community at Christmas time. The nights bowling with him. Oh yes and who can forget the comedic actions he had and how that was culminated in the West Woodford Drum and Bugle Corpse for which all of us enjoyed.
Roberta and Boys, he was truely an inspiration to many and probably never new how many lives he positively impacted.
My prayers for strength and knowing that some day we will all be able to see him again are truely comforting.

Bobbi, Tim, and Casey, we were so sorry to hear of Larry's passing. He had such a positive influence on Golconda, and especially my family. Brooke and Joe, Mark and Jessie, and Neil and Sabrina were all guided by him in their teens. Remember the walk to Amaeus, Larry's license plates (neat custom ones), and his great way of cheering me up. His church fundraiser ideas were also memorable!

Roberta and boys, My brothers Marvin and Myron informed me of your loss. Bill Kelly also e-mailed me. We are all so saddened over your loss. Larry was a sports icon in our past. His humor shall be remembered forever. My wife Carrie said he made the class reunion so much fun. He was hilarious and funny (like always). I shall always keep the poem he wrote me after the reunion re: the infamous relay team of Crum, Shultz, Liable and Kiesewetter. His humor was beyond approach!!! God Bless!!! An "ole classmate" that shall never forget him.

I'll always remember Larry (the milkman)growing up in Washburn, raising Glads, taking pictures, following me delivering as the milkman, and especially for the poem that he wrote that was read at dad's funeral. Our prayers are with you.

I first met Larry when he was a reporter for the Metamora Herald and I was a teacher-coach at Metamora. I got to know him better through the Walk To Emmaus movement. I still have a poster hanging in my room out here in Phoenix that he made and gave to me when I was a Lay Leader in the Walk to Emmaus. I have followed his life as he moved into the ministry as a middle aged man. My prayers go out to his wife,Bobbi and family.

Bobbi and boys, I am so sorry to hear of Larry's passing. I will always remember all the fun times in the Corpse band. When I was younger I so enjoyed his gladiolas that he had planted in our back yard, he had such a talent for growing those beautiful flowers. I will miss all the laughter he put in the world. I'm so saddened to lose a dear childhood friend. I was one of the youngest in choir, and sometimes Larry would reach up from the back row, poke me in the shoulder, and whisper, " This is from your grandpa". Grandpa set in the back row too, but too far away to reach me. When Larry said that, I knew I had to shape up, and quit talking and/or giggling. Once all of us MYF kids were cleaning up the church kitchen after some kind of money-making thing we'd had and Larry mentioned that he thought he'd like to own a restaurant when he grew up. We all agreed that he'd be good at that because he was so kind and friendly. He chose a different career, and his goodness and testimony reached a lot more people from the pulpit that it would have in a restaurant. :)

Larry was a true christian man. I don't beleive he ever did wrong.
He was commuity minded and always thought good of his fellow man.
We are truly sorry of his death. May he RIP as he is welcomed home into the loving arms lord amd master.
