Larry G. Warfel Ph.D.

Dr. Larry G. Warfel, 66, of Pendleton, Indiana and former Lapel resident, passed away July 12, 2010, at St. Vincent North East Medical Center following a sudden illness. He was born October 13, 1943, in New Castle, Indiana and had been a Pendleton resident since 1974. He graduated from Lapel High School in 1961 and completed his BS in 1966, MS in 1967, and PhD in 1976, all at Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana. He taught vocational agriculture for four years at Tri High School in Henry County, was education secretary of the Indiana State FFA Association from 1971 to 1978. He was then vice president of Pickering Seed Co., Lewisville, Indiana; marketing director for Woodward Seed Co., McCordsville, Indiana and regional sales manager for Agra Tech Seed Co., McCordsville. The last 15 years of his working career he was principal vocational director at Indiana Reformatory (Indiana Correctional Facility), Pendleton, where he retired from in 2005. Survivors include four children, Wendy S. (fiance, Greg Lane) Hubble of Pendleton, Wade S. (wife, Eavan) Warfel of Indianapolis, Nathan W. (wife, Tiffany) Warfel of Pendleton, and Matthew (wife, Tamara) Warfel of Terre Haute; 13 grandchildren, Morgan, Jarrod, and Taylor Hubble; Savannah and Lexi Lane; Libby, Jake, and Abby Warfel; Whitney, Kaycie, and Aubree Warfel; Jaden and Jaxon Warfel; mother, Evelyn Maxine (Reeves) Warfel; and former wife, C. Jane Warfel. He was preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn Barger. Services: 2 P.M., Saturday, July 17, 2010 at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Lahm Chapel, 211 E. State St., Pendleton, Indiana 46064. Burial will follow in Grove Lawn Cemetery, Pendleton, Indiana. Visitation: 6-9 P.M., Friday, July 16, 2010 and one hour prior to services Saturday at Lahm Chapel, Pendleton. Contributions in memory of Larry may be made to any Fifth/Third Banking Location to assist for future related medical expenses regarding his son Matthew's upcoming kidney transplant and ongoing medical care.
