LAURA MAUDIE MCFARLAND WESLACO – Laura Maudie McFarland born September 20, 190, south of Houston, Texas in Henderson County, Texas. Her parents were William James Matthews and Marcellia Elkins Matthews. After graduating high school, she met the love of her life, Otto Faye McFarland, in Edna Texas. On December 9, 1924 they were married. They remained married for over 75 years. Otto died in 2000 at the age of 96. She was a devoted mother of three boys: Otto "Corky" Jr., Howard, and Floyd. She was a loving grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. She was known by many as Maudie or Granny. She lived 85 years in the Valley. Maudie was a wonderful housewife. Noted for her many delicious dishes and desserts. She loved to sew and was an avid hobbyist in the field of ceramics and china painting. Granny also was a love of the outdoors. Her favorite past time was hunting and fishing. At the age of 100, she was asked "what had changed the most in 100 year?" She said transportation. As a young girl she recalled riding in a horse and carriage and in her 90's she flew in a jet to Las Vegas. Granny was a kind, caring person who practiced good Christian values. She was a woman of honor and displayed courage and determination. She has a strong will and a sharp mind. God allowed her to live on this earth 108 years and ten months before he called her home. She leaves us with many great memories and for this we are grateful. She is survived by her son Floyd McFarland and grandchildren: Gary McFarland (Cathy), Karen Luster (Clarence), Pam Ramzinski (Dan), Mike McFarland (Chris), Stanley McFarland (Kim), Trudy Crockett, Brad McFarland, Bryan McFarland & Melinda, Scott McFarland, Dawn Nemechek & Andy. Visitation will be on Thursday, July 23, 2015 from 10am-2pm with a 2pm chapel service at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco, TX. Officiating the service will be Rev.
