Laura Lynn Pekny

Laura won her race on earth and went to be with Jesus on August 9th just days after celebrating her 59th birthday. Laura packed a lot into her short time on earth facing every challenge with determination and joy. Laura was one of 6 children to Jay and Agnes Coomes. Growing up in a large family and being the oldest daughter she was driven and competitive. Those traits served her well in school and in her choice of careers. Having traveled all of the lower 48 states in the US by the time she was 14 Laura's love of traveling continued on throughout her life. Laura's journey started in San Diego, California where she eventually met her husband Jim at her first job and married soon thereafter. She went on to work at the Naval Ocean Systems Center and had their first child James. Their second child Brian followed quickly after and then Danielle came along rounding out the family. They were then drawn to Arizona with employment opportunities with Raytheon. Laura took that on too and climbed the ladder quickly eventually earning an Assistant Director position. During that time she completed her Master's degree and went on to teach as an instructor for the University of Phoenix while working fulltime. With her responsibilities she was able to travel all over the world and often would travel back to her favorite spots with family and friends. Laura took up photography and would take amazing photos of her many travels to share or print into beautiful art for their home. She expanded her photography skills into portrait work when the many grandchildren stated coming into the family.

While her time here was too short she packed a lot into her time here and lived life to its fullest! She follows both her Father and Mother onto glory along with her sister Debra and leaves her loving husband Jim, her son James grandchildren Jay and Austin, her son Brian his wife Liz and grandchildren Corbin and Riley, their daughter Danielle her husband Kevin and grandchildren Natalia and Declan, Step-son Ed and wife Jessica and grandchildren Isaiah and Micah. Her siblings and their spouses Jay & Misook, David & Debi, Sharon & Jack and sister Michele along with 8 nieces and nephews.
