Laura Perryman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 5, 2025.
Laura Nanette Perryman, a woman of deep compassion and love, passed away on July 11, 2025. She was born on May 1, 1961, in Penn Valley, California, to John Mathis and Beverly Beall Shockcor.

Laura left California in 1979 after enlisting in the United States Army and served one tour in Turkey. Once her service ended, she settled in the Century, Florida, area until a quiet but life-changing excursion to Pensacola. She immediately fell in love with the beaches, breeze, and warmth of the people, and, in 1984, Pensacola became her home.

In Pensacola, Laura built a successful, decades-long career as a realtor and was known for her honesty, sharp mind, and unwavering work ethic. Her clients trusted her not just for her expertise, but because she was genuine and truly cared about them on a personal level. Laura had a way of making people feel welcome long before she ever handed them the keys to their new homes. After retiring, she carried that same reputation into everything she did: from thrift store owner to bartender to manager and historian at her beloved American Legion Post 378, where her presence was deeply felt and appreciated and her legacy will continue to resonate for years to come.

Laura left behind what she cherished most: her fiancé, Christian Byron Leithmann, and her three sons, Terrence Lee Wogan II and his wife Heather, Christopher Lloyd Wogan and his wife Erica, and Jonathan Edward Wogan and his girlfriend Nicole.

As kids, her three boys knew they were in trouble when she used their full name or, worse, when she called them by their brother's name out of sheer frustration. Terry, Chris, and Jon grew up knowing they were fiercely loved by their mother, who never gave up on them, even when they gave her every reason. Her character, compassion, and honesty shaped every part of their lives and will continue to guide them through the rest of their lives.

Her fiancé, Chris Leithmann, was a cherished friend for nearly four decades, her devoted companion for the last twelve years, and the love of her life. Laura and Chris loved spending time on the water aboard their boat, The Lucky Charm. When they weren't fishing, they'd spend entire weekends docked at Quietwater Beach enjoying music, sharing time with friends, and creating countless memories together - the echoes of which still bring smiles and laughter to everyone lucky enough to have spent time with them together. They were each others' playmates and soulmates.

She is also survived by her five grandchildren (Kaitlynn Simpson, Joseph Wogan, Lauren Wogan, Ashton Wogan, and Ian Heaven Wogan), three great-grandchildren (Fisher, Tansen, and Keaton), her ex-husband and dear friend, Duane Perryman, her brother David Thomas and his wife Ellen, and many friends who became family over the years.

The lasting impression Laura left on the friends she left behind is impossible to measure but easy to feel - as evidenced by the countless remarks from those who knew her. She was remembered as kind, passionate, steady, authentic, funny, deeply intelligent, and fiercely loyal. People called her a beautiful soul, an amazing woman, a sweetheart, the one who made everyone feel at ease. Whether she was working hard, sharing a deep conversation, or simply laughing that unmistakable raspy laugh, Laura made people feel like they belonged. She was unapologetically herself: steady, generous, and true. Her character never changed with the weather or the years. She would go out of her way for anyone, listen without judgment, and love without limits. She was the kind of person who made you feel safe, who reminded you to laugh, and who stood her ground with grace and quiet strength.

Laura will be laid to rest at Barrancas National Cemetery immediately following the Memorial Service at Faith Chapel Funeral Home (100 Beverly Pkwy, Pensacola, FL 32505) on Monday, August 11, 2025, at 1:00 PM (visitation begins at 12:00 PM).

A Celebration of Life will be held at Laura's beloved American Legion Post 378 (4656 Gulf Breeze Pkwy, Gulf Breeze, FL 32563) on Sunday, August 10, from 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM.
