Laurence Brown

Laurence Arthur "Larry" Brown passed away on August 9, 2025, in Sacramento, California, at the age of 73. Born on March 3, 1952, in Montclair, New Jersey, Larry led a life marked by intellectual curiosity, musical talent, and a deep commitment to education.

Larry graduated from Montclair High School before pursuing higher education with vigor and distinction. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of Delaware. His academic journey continued with postgraduate studies in chemistry at both Georgetown University and Princeton University, where he obtained master's degrees that reflected his dedication to scientific inquiry and learning.

Larry began his professional career in the chemical industry, where he applied his expertise for several years. Later in life, he embraced a second career that brought him great fulfillment-teaching. He taught chemistry at the college level and also offered private tutoring online, sharing his knowledge and passion for science with students across various stages of their academic paths.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Larry was an accomplished musician who found joy and expression through music. He played both acoustic and bass guitar with skill and enthusiasm. Music was a lifelong companion for him-a source of creativity and connection. He also enjoyed sailing, finding peace and adventure on the water.

Larry was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jo Ellen Karabasz, formerly of Allentown, PA. Larry and Jo Ellen also shared a life-long attachment to Ocean City, NJ where both of their families spent many years as Summer residents. He is survived by his daughter Veronica; grandsons Anthony and Rewia; and his brother Richard. His presence will be deeply missed by those who knew him.
