Laurie Forbes Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 18, 2025.
Sparks - Laurie Lu Forbes, 65, of Sparks passed away peacefully and surrounded by love on June 20, 2025. A true Nevada girl, she was born on November 25, 1959 at St. Mary's Hospital in Reno. She lived a life rooted in family, the high desert, gardening, animals, and a deep appreciation for the land and history of Northern Nevada. She was a devoted wife and mother, survived by her husband, George V. Forbes, Sr, her sons, George V. Forbes, Jr. and Matthew Forbes, her daughter-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind cherished memories with her late parents, Duane and Luella Lysne, and her beloved brothers, Dennis and Greg Lysne who preceded her in death. Her family was the heart of her world.

Laurie grew up in Reno and attended Mount Rose Elementary, where her father served as the principal, and later attended Reno High School. She had a lifelong love for the desert and everything it offered, from hunting and rockhounding, to arrowhead searching and digging through old mining sites for old artifacts that told a story about the past. She had a special affection for Northern Washoe County, where she spent countless hours exploring and connecting with the land.

Laurie was a proud member of the Reno Gem & Mineral Society, where she found joy and friendship among fellow enthusiasts. Her home reflected her passion - full of stories, stones, and souvenirs from her adventures.

Her generous heart, curious mind full of wit, and her fierce loyalty will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A celebration of life will be held at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Reno on September 6th at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Defenders of Wildlife or the Southwest Indian Foundation in honor of Laurie's love for animals and respect for Native Americans.
