Laurie Whalen-Freedman

Laurie C. Whalen-Freedman, 66, passed away peacefully with family and friends by her side. Born March 1, 1959 in Beverly, MA, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Mary Anne (Dion) Whalen.

After spending her youth attending public schools in the North Shore, Laurie was a graduate of Bishop Fenwick High School. She went on to study at Southern New Hampshire University, and the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. Using her outgoing and engaging personality, she became a beloved figure working in the local restaurant industry in Southern New Hampshire.

A natural athlete, she was a standout in several sports in her youth. As an adult Laurie discovered an enthusiasm for tennis and enjoyed her summer days spent playing in leagues at Cedardale in Haverhill. She had a lifelong passion for animals and loved skiing, shopping, decorating (especially for the holidays), and long conversations. Her family joked that Laurie could spend hours talking to a wrong number.

A proud and loving mother, "Logy" as many of her closest family and friends fondly called her, is survived by her daughter Amanda; a son Justin Freedman and his wife Christine of Beverly; four grandchildren; her sister Gail (Whalen) Hatta and husband Stephen of Florida; her brother Thomas Whalen of Beverly; her nieces, cousins and many friends.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on May 19th 11 AM at St. John the Evangelist Church, Beverly. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial in St. Mary's Cemetery in Beverly to immediately follow.
