Lawrence Philip Tompkins, "Larry," 87, passed away peacefully at Plantation Manor in Birmingham, AL, October 30th, 2024. Larry was born on July 23rd, 1937, an identical twin, fourth of nine children, to Eloise and PJ Tompkins in Toledo, Ohio. He grew up in Evansville, Indiana graduating from Reitz Memorial High School. Larry received his Bachelor of Arts in History from Bellarmine College, Master of Arts in Education, Education Specialist. Larry moved to Kansas City, becoming an area teacher and coach serving St Charles Borromeo Grade School, St Pius X High School, and Liberty High School. Larry worked diligently his entire life and finally retired from his second career at Platte County Board of Services, where he served developmentally challenged men. Larry, a devout Catholic, was an avid Notre Dame football and Chiefs fan until the day he passed.

In addition to spending time with his loved ones his favorite passion was traveling the U.S. with his wife, Cynthia, for the last 20 years. He had love for all children, adolescents, adults and was an instantaneous friend to everyone he met.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents Eloise and PJ Tompkins, sister Lenore Miles, brother Phil Terrance Tompkins, his twin brother James Philip Tompkins, and wife Cynthia. Larry is survived by sons Blake Jewett Tompkins, Brock Lawrence Tompkins (Cia Tompkins) and Brett Philip Tompkins, granddaughter Ashlyn Tompkins, granddaughter Kathryn Tompkins, and grandson Oliver Tompkins and sisters Gertrude Muensterman, Kathleen Straube, Eloise Hamner (Ray), Christine Settle, Nadine Parker, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and friends. Larry will be dearly missed by all his family and all who knew him. Donations honoring Larry can be made to Saint James Church in Liberty, Mo, or Sisters of Saint Francis, Savannah, Mo., or a charity of your choice.

The mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 8, 2024, at Saint James Catholic Church in Liberty, Missouri. The burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery North, 5001 NE Cookingham Dr, Kansas City, MO 64156.
