Layman Ward Tolbert Sr., beloved Husband, Sibling, Father, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather passed away peacefully on 6/28/24. He was 94 years old.

Ward was born on 10/26/29 in Carroll, VA to Wyatt and Emma Spence Tolbert. From an early age, he exhibited many scholastic achievements and continued to support his children and grandchildren's achievements for years following. He grew into a very hardworking individual who always provided for his family. Throughout his life, Ward touched the lives of many with his humor, generosity, and faith.

He is survived by his wife, Brooksie Nerene Tolbert, sister; Helen Rutrough, children; Ward Tolbert Jr. (Toni), Vickie Jo Tolbert, Mal Tolbert (Lynn), and Wendy Kim Lynskey (James), Grandchildren; Autumn Spencer, Keeper Spencer, Kevan Spencer, Kody Spencer, Samantha Stone (Cameron), and Jamie Lynskey; and Great-grandchildren Grayson Stone, and Gavin Stone. He is preceded in death by; brothers Husten Tolbert, Palmer Tolbert, Glen Tolbert, sisters; Thelma Keith, Bernice Peterman and parents Emma Spence, and Wyatt Tolbert.

The family will celebrate Ward's life privately. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you check in on elderly shut-ins and do everything with love.

Ward's presence will be deeply missed but his legacy of hard-work and determination will continue to live on in the hearts and memories of those who knew and loved him.

Rest in peace, dear Ward. You will forever remain in our hearts.
