Leah Loomis Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 30, 2017.
Leah D. Loomis, 17, of Carbondale Twp., Pa., was taken from us Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017, at Newton Lake, Greenfield Twp., Pa., enjoying the last days of summer. Born Nov. 22, 1999, in Scranton, Pa., Leah was the daughter of Joseph and Janan Cook Loomis, Carbondale Twp. Leah was a senior at Lakeland Junior Senior High School. She was captain of the Lakeland Chiefs Basketball Cheerleaders and a member of the Lakeland Chiefs Football Cheerleaders. She danced ballet for many years at the Carbondale Dance Academy and for the Scranton Civic Ballet Theatre, performing in their many productions of "The Nutcracker." She also played for the Jermyn Youth Softball League. Being a Type One, or juvenile diabetic, Leah was a volunteer member of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Eastern Chapter, and participated in many JDRF One Walks. She was also a cofounder of the Facebook-based SugarBabies. There, Leah created handmade crafts whose sales benefitted the JDRF.

Saying Leah enjoyed life to the fullest was an understatement, keeping us endlessly entertained with her humor, signature smile and infectious laughter. Leah loved the summers she spent with her family at Lake Lowe, Herrick Twp., Pa. Taking care of her nieces and nephew brought great meaning to her life, while snuggling with her cat, Deliliah, kept her warm at night. Being known by many nicknames, such as Sweetie Two Hearts, Leahtard, Leahbug, LuLu and LeeLee, was a small reflection of the joy she brought to everyone. She treasured her many friends like they were her siblings. She told everyone that because of their friendships, she enjoyed the best summer of her life.

Also surviving are a brother, Daryl Loomis, his wife, Ashley Wormuth Loomis; nephew, Dylan Loomis; niece and Goddaughter, Eva Loomis, of Carbondale; a brother, Drew Loomis, Carbondale; brother, Derek Loomis and his soulmate, Abbey Williams; niece, Macie, Carbondale; maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Cook; and paternal grandmother, Josephine Loomis, Carbondale; aunts and uncles, Sheila and Bobby Carlucchio, Dickson City; Maureen and Michael Bratton, Palmyra; Clarita and Jerry Coles, Moscow; Molly and Pat McKenna, Laughlin; James and Dawn Loomis, Perkiomenville; Jack Loomis and his companion, Jackie Bennet, Dalton; Aunt Elaine and Rich Grzenda, Jermyn; and Aunt Narda Bellas Loomis, Whites Crossing; cousins, Erin Bratton, Kingston; Ryan Bratton and his companion, Heather Morihara, Phoenixville; Aaron, Sean and Collin Coles, Moscow; Morgan and Thomas McKenna, Laughlin; Jimmy Loomis and his companion, Julie Gryszka, and their daughter Norah, Edwardsville; Dr. Jennifer Loomis and fiancé, Dr. Patrick Farrell, St. Louis, Mo.; Kristy Loomis and her companion, Laura Grim, Coplay; and Lyssa Loomis and her companion, Lisa Barnes, Peckville.

Leah was preceded in death by her grampa, Harry Cook; and paternal great-grandmother, Marie Devita, who was lovingly known as her Nanny.

The family would like to thank so many people and organizations, not limited to the Scott Twp., Ledgedale, Tunkhannock, Germania and Tafton Dive and Rescue Teams and Scott Twp., Greenfield Twp. and Clifford Twp. Fire Departments and Rescue Teams, Cottage Hose Ambulance Company and the American Red Cross for finding and bringing our little girl back home.

In lieu of flowers, donations in loving honor of Leah Loomis can be made to the Scott Dive Rescue Specialists, P.O. Box 134, Peckville, PA 18452.

The funeral will be Tuesday, Oct. 3, at 11 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 N. Church St., Carbondale. Those planning to attend the Mass are asked to proceed directly to church. Interment will be in Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Twp.
