Leigh Myers Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 12, 2012.
MYERS, Leigh Andrew - 63, Dartmouth, passed away peacefully March 10, 2012 in Dartmouth General Hospital. Born on January 25, 1949, Leigh was the son of the late Orland and Ruth (Williams) Myers. Leigh was a proud graduate of Prince Andrew High School where he was a star quarterback, winning the 1967 Championship. After high school Leigh went on to work at Birks as a manager, then switched careers and found his true calling in carpentry. He was a man who could accomplish anything he put his mind to. Leigh touched the lives of many people with his smile and quick wit, and he maintained his trademark sense of humour all the way to the end. He will be remembered for his outgoing personality and his ability to communicate with anyone with ease. His excellent memory and attention to detail will be difficult to match. Leigh enjoyed watching Jeopardy, sports, reading, and doing countless hours of crosswords. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to golf, fish, camp, and spend hours in his garden. He enjoyed a great party, and his story telling and dancing will be greatly missed by his countless friends whom were blessed to know him. He is survived by his son, Trevor; daughter, Jody (Ryan) Huestis; sister, Dawn (Larry) Mason; nephew and nieces, Darren Smith, Lindsay Mason, Alison MacDougall; and great-niece and great nephew, Alyssa and Brandon Ward-Smith. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his sister, Sheryl Smith, and his wife of 36 years, Judy (MacInnis). He will be greatly missed by his companion, Judy Caborn, who provided Leigh and his family with care and comfort throughout his battle. Visitation will be held at A.L. Mattatall's Funeral Home, 217 Portland St, Dartmouth on Tuesday, March 13 from 6-8p.m. and on Wednesday, March 14 from 2-4p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will be held at St. Andrew's Anglican Church, 8 Locks Road, Dartmouth on Thursday, March 15 at 11:00a.m. Cremation has taken place and a private interment will be held at a later date. Donations may be made in Leigh's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, or Hope for Wildlife Society. The family would like to thank the VON and staff of 3 West for their help and support.

The news of Leigh's passing saddens all of us and the world is less well off for his passing. Leigh was a sportsman in the best sense of the word, a modest person in spite of his many attributes, and a good friend to all who knew him. That said, his memory will live on in all who knew or met him.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Myers family at this most difficult time. Leigh was a wonderful person and a good friend to my husband, Peter - they grew up around the corner from each other. They're probably having a few laughs about all their fun times now that they are together in a pain-free place. Sincerely, Louise MacPhee

To Leigh's family, I am a graduate of Prince Andrew High School, 1969. Leigh and I travelled in different circles, and I recall Leigh being a football star. Many years later, I had the opportunity to be in Leigh's company, an an annual golf event, hosted by alumni of our high school. What struck me about Leigh was his everyman kindness, talking to everyone there. He was truly a star in high school, back in the day, but his warmth and kindness to all that were present at this event stuck with me. A warm, kind and good man, going to a place he so richly deserves. Condolances to his children, family and friends. Christine (Casas) Loewen
