Leo Hoffman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 1, 2012.
Leo Joseph Hoffman was born on November 6, 1929 to Joseph and Helena (nee Boehm) Hoffman in North Battleford, SK. Leo grew up on the family farm, and quit school at a young age to help care for his younger siblings at home. When Leo was 16, he left home to work up north clearing land for soldiers returning home from war. Leo met his wife, Helen, while visiting his sister in the hospital in Paradise Hill. Leo was smitten and after a brief courtship they married in 1958. They purchased 2 quarters of land and a farmhouse southeast of St. Walburg shortly afterwards. Leo and Helen raised their four boys on this farm and they grew up farming alongside their parents. Leo would also work winters logging to help support the family. During the 1980's Leo and Helen travelled to different countries vacationing. Leo especially enjoyed swimming in the ocean. Leo was a strong man and an exceptionally hard worker. He was a skilled equipment operator and loved to farm. Leo had a hard life, but he always had one goal – to make a better life for his family. Leo was a devoted husband; he and Helen spent a great deal of time working together on their yard, planting shrubs and flowers. When Leo was not working, he loved reading, watching hockey and following current events in the news. In his later years, he loved to go fishing with his sons. Leo would always talk about how proud he was of his children. He always took a keen interest in their hobbies and work, as well as his grandchildren. Some of Leo's favourite memories are during harvest and Christmas, because he could share a good meal with his family. Leo always kept himself busy fixing and fabricating -- he never truly retired. He loved to work in his shop on the farm, welding and building useful things, mostly for his boys. Leo will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by: his wife of 53 years, Helen Hoffman of St. Walburg. A very special sister-in-law, Christina Lynn Four sons, nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren: Robert (Joan) Hoffman and family, Arla (Gerald) Macnab and children Connor, Rogan and Quinn; Jaime Hoffman and Whitney Hoffman Julius (Romona) Hoffman and family, Brad Hoffman and Brandi Hoffman Lucien (Roxanne) Hoffman and family, Colton Hoffman and Daylan Hoffman Richard (Carla) Hoffman and family, Brennon Hoffman and Landis Hoffman Seven siblings: Rudolph, Tillie (Bill), Martha (Stan), Adele, Sophie (John), Louise (Wayne) and Joe (Agnes) Leo is predeceased by: his parents, Helena and Joseph Hoffman; his siblings, Roland, Clara and a baby brother.
