BRISTOL, Va. – Elder Leonard Barton, age 82, passed away Monday, April 2, 2007, at Howard County General Hospital in Columbia, Md.
Born Jan. 1, 1925, in Tenso, Va., he was a son of the late Elijah and Emaline Edwards Barton. He was self-employed at Barton Clock Services, a World War II veteran, and pastored Shiloh, Millers View and Tumbling Creek Churches. He was a special and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, three brothers and a son-in-law, George Nagel.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Madgaline (Maggie) Barton; three daughters, Janis Nagel of Beltsville, Md., Bonita (Billy) Cook of Frederick, Md., and Sharon (Russ) Shoop of Leonardtown, Md.; a son, Rickey Barton of Beltsville; seven grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 15 step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 7, 2007, at the Tumbling Creek Primitive Baptist Church, with Elders Johnathan Cook, Bill Stephens, Darrell Davis and Jason Adams officiating. Graveside military rites will follow at the Forest Hills Memory Gardens in Abingdon. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7 p.m. on Friday at the Haysi Funeral Home, with services to begin at 7 p.m., with Elders Johnathon Cook, Bill Stephens, Curt Heath and Eddie Lyle officiating.
Haysi Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
