Leonard Pezza Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 10, 2024.
Leonard Benjamin Pezza, 71, of Mt. Laurel, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at home on September 10th, 2024.

Lenny was born on July 2, 1953, in Newark, New Jersey. After graduating from Bloomfield High School in 1971, he joined the US Army.

Lenny began working at the New Jersey Turnpike on November 13, 1989, as an automotive mechanic and eventually became assistant foreman and Vice President of the Local 200. He retired after almost 26 years of service on July 31, 2015.

During the course of his tenure, Lenny built many lifelong friendships that, together with his wife, gave him the love and support he needed to overcome his health challenges and live a blessed, fulfilling life.

After retiring from the Turnpike, he continued his passion for automobile mechanics as a hobby. Throughout his life, Lenny mentored many young men and adolescents in both automotive and life lessons and continued to build even more cherished relationships up until his passing.

Lenny enjoyed worship at Broad Street Baptist Church with Pastor Chapman, a lifelong friend and spiritual mentor.

Lenny was predeceased by his parents Palmina (nee Ricciardi) and Americo D. Pezza, his brother David Pezza, his Aunt Grace Beaman, and his stepson Americo D. Pezza.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of almost 31 years, Theresa Ann Pezza (nee Siner), with whom he built a beautiful life full of love and happiness and together enjoyed many travel adventures.

Lenny is also survived by brother: Americo J. Pezza; son: Leonard M. Pezza and wife Judith; stepdaughter: Cassandra Perno and husband Thomas, stepdaughter: Theresa Delgado and husband Ricardo; and grandchildren: Amelia, Addison, Austin, Brandon, Carter, Alejandro, and extended family, including his Local 200 and Turnpike family.

Lenny touched everyone he met. He was kind, caring, and his generosity knew no limits. He will forever be remembered by his lighthearted humor and "Lenny-isms." As he enjoys peace on his eternal "Lord's Day," we wish him a forever "happy motoring.".

The family will share details of a Celebration of Life at a later date.

I'm so upset to hear of Lenny's passing. He was one of my most favorite people I worked with on the Turnpike. Lenny always brightened up your day no matter what crap was going on. I had a problem once when my son broke down in Washington DC and Len said come get the car dolly and go get him. Len would do just about anything to help someone out but never would accept any kind of gratuity in return. I enjoyed hanging out at his garage and remember busting his chops about that giant snap-on toolbox {bigger than a couch}! My condolences and I will always think of him whenever I come up to Jersey and pass by the Mount Laurel house. RIP my friend.

I bought a car from him back when he was working at Lenny's towing in keansburg. That was 34 years ago. He has been one of the best friends anyone could ever hope to have. Keep a lift open for me Lenny.

My wife and I spent a day at Monmouth park racetrack with Len and Terry. We talked about it for months. We had a great time, won some $$ and went to dinner. Lenny was not feeling well but he mustered the strength because he wanted to spend time with us. That is the essence of Len. RIP our dear friend
