I'm sad to hear of Dr. Indorato's passing (and mortified that I'm learning of it so many years later). I was a frequent visitor to the Murrysville office of Drs. Indorato, Glick and Levine as a kid, and in terms of medical care it spoiled me for life - such great and empathetic care from three very wise and kind men. I hope his family, his husband and all who loved him know how much he was appreciated.

My deepest sympathy. I live in Florida and have been out of touch. I love this man. I worked for him in 1969. He taught me how to cooked and we both had a love of antiques. He always gave me great decorating advice. You were so loved and admired by all that came in contact with you

I just learned of Dr. Indorato's death. While I am deeply saddened at the loss of this great man, I will be forever grateful he was my son's pediatrician for 18 years. During that time I came to care for him in a way I have never cared for a physician before and doubt that I shall again. Dr. Indorato was truly a gift to our family. His voice of reason calmed me through all of my son's illnesses and he became more than a family pediatrician. He was a mentor and guiding influence. Although some of his advice seemed over the top at the time, in hindsight he was always right. The world is a better place for him having been in it. He will be missed.

I just found out that dr Indorato had died when I got my Pitt Med magazine. As a first year medical student I had the wonderful opportunity to shadow dr. Indorato for an afternoon. While I did not go into Peds i have always remembered what a wonderful doc and wonderful man he was. My sincere condolences to his family. Your spouse/father/grandfather will always be remembered by this surgeon.

Dr. Indorato was our daughters' doctor until he retired this year. He was one of the best clinicians we ever knew; full of wisdom and kindliness, eyes forever twinkling. We will miss him very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.

We were so sad to hear of Dr. Indorato's passing. He was our daughter and son's pediatrician from their births over 16 years ago. He was always warm and compassionate with his advice whether over the phone or in person. I will always carry his calming words with me as a mother and pass his advice onto my own children. Know that he was very much respected and will be missed by so many.

My family and I valued Dr. Indorato's wisdom and kindness. We are saddened by his passing. We can't know why some things happen, but we can know that love and beautiful memories outlast the pain of grief. And we know that there's a place inside the heart where love lives always and where nothing beautiful can ever be forgotten.

We are saddened to hear the news of Dr. Indorato's passing so soon. He was our girls' pediatrician, and back in June, we were happy that he was at least able to meet our newborn for her first well child visit. We had wished that he had been able to enjoy a long retirement with his family, but alas, it was not to be. Our most sincere condolences to his family, and hope you are comforted by the fact that so many wrote such wonderful messages about his contributions to others. You are in our prayers.

I worked briefly at Robert & Lee in 1988. While I wasn't the best employee, I was continually impressed with Lee's work ethic and the vision he and Rob had for the shop. That has stuck with me. I am sorry for the loss of this great man.

To know him was to love him. He made you grow as a person. I only had the priviledge to know him for nine years while working at GIL. to Drs Glick and Levine you have lost a true friend and to Rob ypur relationship was one of true devotion. David he loved you and your children and you had a wonderful father and grandfather. He was so proud of his grandchildren and talked of them often with a smile in his voice. When I had to work with him on Sundays, my daughter would come with me and he would read her stories or color with her until patients arrived. She liked him very much. To GIl Pittsburgh staff, my thoughts and prayers are with you. Dr. I it was my priviledge. Bea

I am shocked to hear this sad news today. Dr. Indorato cared for my two daughters till this June. He was more than our family pediatrician. He was like a mentor. When I told him I intended to enter medical residency in the US, he allowed me to shadow him for a period of time. I witnessed the long-term relationship he has fostered with his patients and their families. I was amazed by his nurturing demeanor. I will always remember his kindness.

I met Lee in 1972 as a fourth year medical student at West Penn. He was handsome, recently divorced, and young and nice to me. He saved me a long hot walk home to The Ruskin a number of times. He took me furniture shopping. He treated me like a person which was an unusual way to treat medical students. I liked him, yet we were never close. Medical students didn't make friends with attending's in those days. When I came back as an Attending at West Penn, I was in a competitive practice. I was always sorry that we didn't become friends. I will never forget his kindness towards me. I am sorry to learn of his passing so young.

Dr. Indorato was a great m.d. but more than that he was a great person I had the privilage to work with at Magee. I remember once talking about retirement and he said he was going to retire in New York. He said we have a place in Long Island. That was years ago,but I will think of him there looking out over the ocean, finally being where he wished to be. God Bless his family and freinds. Karen Pennington

Dr. Indorato was my children's pediatrician from 1979 until they graduated high school. He was such a caring and compassionate physician and a truly gentle man with my kids. They did not fear going to see him, even if they knew they were due for shots. He had such a calming influence. They always looked forward to the pretzel sticks they received at the end of their visit. I hope that those he trained will follow his example of kindness and warmth when caring for children. My condolences to his family & friends.

So very sad to learn that Doc Indorato has died. He cared for both of my sons, Nick and Joey. I trusted his medical knowledge and appreciated his relaxed approach with my children. My niece Nicole Gabriel, now 36 years old, was his patient back in the 70's. My brother and sister in law highly recommended him as a pediatrician. We are so glad that we were able to have him as our doctor for so many years. God Bless his entire family! He touch so many lives and will be truly missed.

Rest in peace Dr. Indorato. As a first time mother 26 years ago he helped me through the difficult times with feeding issues etc. I always trusted his opinion and often times wished he had been a PCP for adults. My family is deeply sadden by your passing. You will be truly missed by many.

What made Dr. Indorato special was he took care of all of the needs of his patient. He wanted to be sure that our son developed mentally, emotionally, physically. He remembered everything about him including things that had not been written in the chart. When we saw him on occasion after the 19 years our son spent with him, he new us and always asked about our child, what he was doing with his life, and especially about his relationship with his half-brothers. Dr Indorato was an outstanding man and a caring, excellent pediatrician. He was the very best. His death saddens all of us. Our condolences to his family.

I was a nurse in the Preemie Nursery (as it was called back in the early 70s) and worked alongside Dr Indorato, Glick, and Levine. Dr Indorato was a wonderful, knowledgeable, and caring physician who worked very hard in the unit to keep our babies alive. Although he could be "scary" to me at times (I was only in my early 20s and only 6 months out of nursing school when I met him) I respected him for the compassionate and dedicated physician he was. He enjoyed teaching the nurses and I learned a lot about preemies from him. Because of my love for this population, I remained a NICU nurse for the duration of my nursing career. He will certainly be missed by all who knew him. I am sending my sincere condolences to his family and to all who will feel his loss.

I am touched by the many tributes to Dr. Lee Indorato as a compassionate Pediatric Physician. I had the pleasure of meeting and knowing Lee through a mutual friend “back in the days”. Lee is someone that made you feel better about yourself after being in his company. He is warm, kind, welcoming, and displays a genuine interest in people and their lives. You are gone too soon Lee, but hopefully to a better place, if there is such a place without your presence.

Rob, David and Family,
I was shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of Lee. I am so sorry I did not know of his retirement party, I would have been there! I was the first Head Nurse of the Premie soon to become Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at West Penn Hospital. I was so excited by the arrival of this group of newly finished pediatric physicians. I feel like we "grew up" together in that nursery. It was a very special time for neonatology and for us as professional caregivers. I developed a great respect for Lee's knowledge, intellect and compassion when caring for infants and children. When he was a young physician, his temper was also legendary. When I saw him waiting in the hall for me in the morning I knew there would be some problem that required "fixing". He was a perfectionist. There were times of lots of laughs, too. When the group left to establish their private practice it was personally a great loss for me as Head Nurse and for the NICU. We spent many hours working together. I heard lots of stories about you as you grew up, David.
On a personal level, when my stepson Rob came to live with us I chose Lee to be his pediatrician, as a teen, Rob thought he "walked on water"! As an adult, Rob chose Lee as the pediatrician to care for his two children. When John and I adopted our daughter, there was no other choice as to who would care for her! And before his retirement he was also caring for her daughter, Brooke.
Lee was a special person and just knowing that he is no longer with us saddens me greatly. He will be sorely missed. He was a special part of my professional life!

In the 70's and early 80's, Dr. Indorato was the doctor for my children. I was an RN who was convinced every symptom presented by children was one associated with a fatal disease. After one particular visit, Dr. Indorato wrote a prescription for me. It said, "Burn your Pediatric textbook." I went home and burned the book right in my back yard. Thank you, Dr. Indorato.
October 28, 2014
To family of Dr. Indorato our deepest sympathy on the death of your spouse and father.
The Gavran family met Lee, Chick, and Shelly 45 years ago when my husband worked at West Penn Hospital. It was the best thing to come out of his employment at the hospital. Those three doctors saved my sanity many times during those growing up years . While DR. Glick was our primary, my girls saw both Dr. Levine and Dr. Cookie Monster as they affectionately called Dr. Indorato many times and still remember all three fondly as do George and I.
God has not given us grandchildren but had he they would have been patients.
He will be missed!
