LESLIE BERTEL Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 7, 2014.
BERTEL LESLIE ANNE
"I am not a Tourist, I am a Traveler". Born September 4, 1956, daughter of the late Lieutenant Colonel Norman V. Bertel, Sr. and Florence Bertel; cherished sister of James (Ingrid) Bertel, Norman (Kimberly) Bertel, and the late Robert Charles Bertel; also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, and her beloved pets, Daisy and Pedro. Leslie recently retired from the Pittsburgh public schools after 30 years of service. She was a world traveler exploring the world's nations and peoples. She was an accomplished sportswoman and enjoyed all sports, especially women's rugby, women's softball and marathon running. She was die hard Red Sox fan. She will be remembered for her generosity, her laugh, her love of family, friends, and animals, and always looked forward to the "Prayer Meetings", with her fellow teachers on Friday afternoon. Funeral arrangements by BEINHAUERS. Friends welcome at 2630 West Liberty Ave., Dormont, 412-531-4000, Saturday 1 p.m. until time of Celebration of Life Service at 2 p.m. Family suggests memorial contributions to www.aspca.org/donate. Ten years. It doesn't seem possible. I am so sorry I grew up too late to express my sorrow at all the years I wasted when we could have been friends again. Thinking of you today and playing Joni Mitchell in the background. I pray you are at peace. I actually turned out a lot better than the friend you remembered. Be at Peace. May you be riding a beautiful painted pony

Wow.. I went to college with Leslie, back in the 70's at Bethany, WVA... had a great smile and laugh and was always up beat... i am sad

I coached Leslie for several years in softball. She lived with us for a short while in Pgh, and I sold her home in Pgh. Coincidence... I am meeting with her brother and sister in law Fri about a swimming pool! In Arizona! She was one of the best....

It's been a month since you've left us,
but the memory of you still lives on.
Thinking of you daily,
while trying to stay strong.

We wish you were here today,
even for just a little while.
So we could say, "Happy Birthday", dear friend
and see your beautiful smile.

The only gifts we have,
will be those you had to leave behind.
The laughter, joy and happiness,
precious memories...the best kind.

Today we'll do our very best,
to try and find a happy place.
Struggling to hide our heavy hearts
and the tears upon our face.

We'll sit quietly and look at your picture,
thinking of you with an abundance of love.
Hoping you're doing okay,
in the great heavens above.

May the angels hold you close
and sing you a happy song.
As we will be sending you wishes,
today and all year long.

Happy Birthday, Leslie!

You will always be loved and never forgotten. we miss you and i wish i had spent more time with you, knowing this day would come. But you are in a better place now. you lived life to the fullest! Me and mom have listened to "Sweet Caroline" at least 15 times and i keep seeing a lot of cars the same kinds as yours, but maybe that's your way of telling us your okay and that you will always be with us. miss you! and love you -love Maddy

I will never forget Aunt Leslie and the way she readily welcomed me into the family. She truly was one of the most interesting people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Anyone who knew her can tell you about her larger than life personality. What they can also tell you is that the only thing bigger than Leslie's personality was her heart. This was evidenced by the love she held for her family and friends and by the dedication she displayed in her 30-year teaching career. I will miss her and be forever thankful for the times we shared. Until we meet again.

Dear Leslie,
We are deeply saddened that we have lost such a wonderful friend & neighbor. My family and I will cherish the fond memories that we have shared through the years. I admired your love and dedication to the teaching profession and your students. Always grateful for the wonderful example you set for Kristopher & Madelyn through the years. On a more personal note. I'll miss your great laugh, hearing you call for Pedro every night and now I have no one to meet at the fence line for afternoon conversation & much more. You will be deeply missed. Our deepest condolences to The Bertel Family.

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the Lee Family. Carolyn was introduced to me by a mutual friend, Rosa Lee Hamlin when we attended Westinghouse. We hit it off right away because we all had Jesus in common. I was a part of the class of 68 as well.

You are in my prayers. Another child of God has gone home!

Leslie, you have served this world with great conviction and passion for many activities, and have become the perfect role model for all of us regarding your virtue to help other people and animals alike. Your life's work, or shall we say journey, is a legacy that will forever remain in our memories and hearts. Please know that Daisy and Pedro are being well cared for as you embark on your new exploration of the great heavens above. Our prayers and deepest sympathies go out to your family members and other friends, as we all search for comfort in knowing this world has lost a wonderful woman who is a true inspiration to all in so many different ways. God bless you and all others whose lives you have touched. We deeply miss you and are eager to hear more stories of your continued life experiences in heaven when we see each other again. With love and much appreciation for the many years of true friendship, Bill and Chuck.
