Bubba's family moved to Marion when he was in the fifth grade. He continued his education in Marion and was graduated from Marion High School Class of 1939 and the University of South Carolina where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. He entered the Army Air Corps during World War II in 1943, serving in the Pacific, on Iwo Jima and Okinawa.
For a number of years, Bubba was very active in the Church of Advent (Episcopal), serving as lay reader, junior warden, senior warden, Sunday school teacher and choir member. He was an avid golfer, winning a state championship at 15 years old. He was charter member of the Rotary Club, the Revelers and Cypress Creek River Club. He retired as president of Gasque-Clemmons Agency in 1986.
Surviving are his wife, Isabelle Chambliss "Wuzzy" Clemmons; children, Leslie Wilds Clemmons Jr. of Pee Dee, Isabelle Clemmons Linder of Edisto Beach and James Roger Clemmons III of Brooklyn, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Leslie Wilds Clemmons III of Conway, Walter Dixon Tyler IV and Malcolm Chambliss Tyler, both of Florence; and three great-grandchildren.
Bubba was predeceased by a brother, James Roger Clemmons Jr. of Laurinburg, N.C.

I did not know Mr. Clemons, but I did know his son Wilds. I lived in Marion for a while in the late 1970's and early 1980's. My prayers are with the family.
