It is with great sadness that I learn of Leslie Kawamura's passing. I worked closely with him through the 1970s and '80s as I pursued my studies at U.of C. He will be profoundly missed and endearingly loved. My deep condolences to his family, -Dr. Chris Stanford, World Buddhist University.

Les Kawamura was one of the original members of the Dept of Religious Studies. Our kids graduated high school together. What a loss! Condolences to the family.

As long time neighbours of Nao and Peter in London we would like to send our condolences to them and to Toyo. We remember attending birthday parties for the children and meeting both her parents, who where very proud of their grandchildren. We know he will be greatly missed by his family.

The years I spent as Dr. Kawamura's student during the 1980's were seminal and affected my life profoundly. My sense of gratitude and appreciation for the awakening he brought to us is boundless.
Infinite Blessings on our esteemed and beloved Professor as he journeys through the Enlightened Space that he was already open to on this side.

I was recently a student in a graduate seminar taught by Dr. Kawamura. The timing was surreal, as this was Dr. Kawamura's first graduate seminar, as well as his last.
It is with sadness that I write these words, but I also feel as though he isn't actually gone.
All my best to Dr. Kawamura's family. He was one of the few teachers I've met who could listen as profoundly as he could speak.

Dr. Kawamura was an incredibly inspiring individual. I found his courses challenging in the best of ways. Besides being a wonderful instructor, he was one of the friendliest individuals I have met. Whenever I would be studying outside his office he never hesitated to stop by and say hello. I consider myself very lucky to have known him.

I was greatly saddened to learn of Dr. Kawamura's passing.
I first met sensei in 1980 when I registered for a history course that he was teaching. I only ever took the one course from him but developed a friendship with him.
These last few years we lost touch with one another but I will always cherish and remember with great fondness our many discussions on a variety of subjects.
He was a true gentleman and scholar. It was an honour to have known him.
My sincerest condolences to Mrs. Kawamura and Family

Leslie will be deeply missed by many people. I have so many memories of him in the department, his laughter, his presence -- and of our talks of ham radio, among so many other things.

I went to school with Nao and was a colleague of Dr. Kawamura after I 'grew up.' We both thought that was a little weird, but in a good way. He was welcoming and honest and will be missed by students and colleagues alike.

I met Professor Kawamura for the first time at the Yogacara workshop I organized in Leiden in 2000. Later we met occasionally at the AAR meetings in North America. Last summer we spent a few days together at another workshop in Gottingen. We talked about our common friends and his plan to attend the conference of IABS to be held in Taipei in this coming June. In all occasions I was deeply touched by his warmness and friendliness. Professor Kawamura is not only a great scholar, but also a true friend. He will be in my memory forever.

I met Dr. Kawamura only once when he was a young man living in Picture Butte. I was visiting with his sister Kathy, a workmate, with whom I have lost touch. My deepest sympathy to all the family. Kathy, if you read this, please get in touch with me.

I had the fortune to take a number of classes with Dr. Kawamura and he was fine professor with a good sense of humour and a way of making the subject real. He will be missed.

I am grateful to the Holy for the briefs moments I spent in the presence of Master Leslie and his vunerability in sharing his journey that he might enlighten our own. He invited me to laugh at myself. The Holy invites us all into laughter. Peaceful awakenings Leslie.

My deepest sympathies. Leslie will be greatly missed. He was a great scholar and teacher, and was a great supporter of the student conference here in Lethbridge. All of us enjoyed his visits to our department for his scholarship and friendliness.
