Leslie Oakley Obituary

OAKLEY, Leslie W. Jr., 87, of Richmond, died May 25, 2009 after a long battle with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. He was born May 6, 1922 to the late Leslie and Alise Oakley and was preceded in death by his sister, LaVerne O. Toney. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Muriel D. (Dickie) Oakley, his daughter, Donna O. Hitt (Ron) of Chesapeake; grandson, Justin D. Hitt; granddaughter, Jennifer H. Jeffries (Jason); and great-granddaughters, Taylor Leigh and Hailey Michele Jeffries. Mr. Oakley was a member of North Run Baptist Church. He worked for RF&P Railroad for over 40 years, and served in the U.S. Army in WWII. The family would like to thank Central Virginia Hospice for their care. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday (today) at Bliley's - Staples Mill, 8510 Staples Mill Road, where services will be held 12 noon Wednesday. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park.

Enjoyed working with "Oakley" way back during mid-to-late-sixties @ RF&P ! Lots of good memories. Mary McChesney thought the world of him, I do remember !!! Sincere condolences to all who so loved him
