Lester G. Eaves, 77, of Denmark, IA and formerly of Niota, IL, passed away at 1:12 a.m. on Sunday, January 22, 2017 at Fort Madison Community Hospital. He was born on September 30, 1939 in Dallas City, IL to Roy & Florence Peeler Eaves. He married Patricia Sue Britton on July 14, 1962 in Fort Madison, IA. She preceded him in death on March 17, 2014. He was a pipefitter at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant and served in the U.S. Navy, where he was also a boxer. He was the co-founder of the Lee County Boxing Club, founder & head coach of the Dallas City Boxing Club for 29 years and was also an MMA coach. He coached pony league, women's slow pitch softball and enjoyed woodworking and hunting. He was affectionately called "coach" by many who knew him. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Fighting Illini fan. He cherished his grandchildren. Lester is survived by: 1-daughter: Trish (David) Fedler of Fort Madison, IA; 2-sons: Mike (Darla) Eaves of Donnellson, IA & Todd (Kristy) Eaves of Fort Madison, IA; 9-grandchildren; 3-great grandchildren; 1-sister: Imogene (Don) Hodges of Fort Madison, IA; 4-brothers: Jerry (Nancy) Eaves of Memphis, MO, Guy Eaves of Fountain Green, IL, Richard (Becky) Eaves of Fort Madison, IA & Jack (Kay) Eaves of Fort Madison, IA. He was preceded in death by: his parents, wife, 1-son: Bobby, 4-sisters & 4-brothers. Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 with the family to receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory with Pastor Mark Lowman officiating. Burial will be held at Appanoose Cemetery in rural Niota, IL. A memorial has been established in his memory. The world needs more men like Lester. He gave the youth of Dallas City something to do. Something to look forward to. He spent countless hours with "his" kids and more often than not, waived their monthly fees to the boxing club. Here's to you Lester! We lived across the tracks from the Eaves family in Dallas City many years ago.Linda was my best friend. When they moved, I was so sad. My brother, Ronnie and I, had countless great times with them. In those days, we played outside until way after dark. Such good memories. Neither family had a t.v.
