Lewis Hill Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 21, 2024.
Lewis Allen Hill was born August 27, 1946 in Center, Texas. He passed away on October 12, 2024 in Plano, Texas at Baylor Scott & White Plano Heart Hospital. Lewis was 78 years old.

Lewis was a very loving person. He was the best husband, father and friend that anyone could ever hope for. He loved making people laugh and telling jokes. His two sons, Shane and Greg, inherited that gift from him, and several grandsons also inherited that gift. He loved to hunt, fish and play golf. He loved motorcycles and owned an Ultra Classic Harley Davidson for many years but sold it as he got older and his health would not allow him to enjoy that hobby any longer. He loved to cook. His mother was a sweet Cajun lady from Louisiana and he definitely knew how to make sausage and chicken gumbo. In fact, it was our tradition to have that dish every Christmas Eve with our family. He was raised Baptist and was a Christian, giving his life to the Lord many years ago. He loved to sing gospel music. In fact, he had a gospel trio, Friends by Grace, for many years with Judy and Randy Melton.

There will be a Memorial Service at the DFW National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas, on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at 9:00am. The Dallas Honor Guard will perform honors of the rifle volley, Taps and flag folding. The North Texas Patriot Guard Riders will also be present to pay their respects to a fellow veteran.

Lewis is survived by his wife, Angie Hammock Hill, of 53 years of Fate, Texas, his son, Shane Hill, and daughter-in-law, Abbie Hill, of Mesquite, Texas, his son, Greg Hill, and daughter-in-law, Jen Hill, of Peoria, Illinois. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Alek Morgan Hill and his wife, Kat Hill, of Garland, Texas, Charlie Hill and his fiancé, Miranda McKenzie, of Mesquite, Texas, Orry Hill of Forney, Texas, Micah Hill, Clay Hill, Jude Hill, Libby Hill, Kate Hill and Bennett Hill of Peoria, Illinois, his brother, Jimmy Hill, and his wife, Betsy, of Boyce, Virginia. And, many cousins.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1964 as an Aviation Hydraulic Mechanic. His first assignment was VT-24, Chase Field, Texas. He was then assigned to VF-21 and deployed on the USS Ranger to the Tonkin Gulf, Vietnam. He served in Vietnam, both at sea and ashore, from 1967-1969. After a break in service, he reenlisted and was assigned to VF-32 in Virginia Beach, Virginia and deployed on the USS John F. Kennedy to NATO Exercises and a Mediterranean deployment. He changed rates in 1980 and served as an Air Traffic Controller at NAS Dallas from 1980-1986. After his father passed away in 1986 in Pineville, Louisiana, Lewis volunteered for Recruiting Duty to be closer to his Mom and was stationed in Pineville, Louisiana. Lewis got out of the Navy in 1989. He continued his career in the field of Aviation as a Quality Manager and Quality Director. In 2009, he qualified as an FAA Certified Aerospace Auditor. He traveled all over the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico auditing various aerospace companies.

Lewis was raised quail hunting with his Dad when they lived in Mississippi and had two bird dogs, Dot and Frank. He loved to duck hunt when he first married Angie. His duck hunting partner was Greg Andrus in Alexandria, Louisiana. There were many ducks in the freezer that she finally learned how to cook to perfection. He loved to deer hunt and there are several deer on the walls of their home. He made two "Trophy Deer Hunts" with his son, Shane, in January 2020 and January 2022. He loved to bass fish and he owned three bass boats over their 53 years of marriage. He loved to play golf. Lewis just loved life!

Laura and I were introduced to the Hill Family by our neighbor and friend Debbie Johnson. At every celebration and party we shared hosted by Lewis and Angie we were welcomed as long lost family. Loved on, hugged on, and lavished upon with tasty delights and cold beverages. Tom´s Navy career was in naval aviation so each visit included tales of times past and a shared loved of all things that fly. Soar high shipmate. Rest easy as we now have the watch. You stand relieved.
