Linda Brittain Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 29, 2025.
Linda Sue Brittain (Carlson)

November 19, 1949 - July 12, 2025

Linda Sue Brittain, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on July 12, 2025, at the age of 75. Born in Aberdeen, South Dakota, on November 19, 1949, Linda was the cherished daughter of Henry and Lavina Carlson.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 54 years, Robert Brittain, and her daughter, Rebecca Brittain. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Canyon Stewart, Logan Brittain, and Parker Brittain. Linda is also survived by her siblings Gary Carlson, Diana Nagy, and Byron Carlson, along with many dear friends whose lives she touched with her warmth, kindness, and humor.

She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Benjamin Brittain, and her parents, Henry and Lavina - and she would want everyone to know that she is now joyfully reunited with them in heaven.

Linda was a light in the lives of all who knew her. Kind, creative, and full of joy, she began her career as a teacher's assistant and went on to become a computer teacher, leading an after-school puppet team that inspired imagination, and laughter called the Sunset Safety Kids. Her love for puppetry extended into her work with the Arizona Puppet Theatre.

She had a creative soul - she sewed, took beautiful photographs, crafted handmade cards, decorated intricate Christmas villages, and baked her famous gingerbread cookies. She found joy in the arts, was deeply moved by the works of Van Gogh, and cherished music, especially the songs of Gordon Lightfoot. She loved to play board games and do puzzles with her family. She loved to laugh, and she deeply loved her friends - many of whom were like family to her.

More than anything, Linda was an extraordinary wife, mother, and grandmother. Her love was unconditional, her presence a comfort, and her heart open to all. Her loss is profound, but her memory will continue to bring light and love to those who knew her.

She is deeply missed and will never be forgotten.

Love, joyful, kind, funny, smiles, caring, and peace.... Those are the first words I think of when I think of my amazing friend LINDA. Linda brought me to her school and showed me her incredible puppetry classes while I was becoming a teacher. She was the official video taper at my wedding in the mountains. She gave my daughter Hope a huge amount of baby dolls, cribs, clothing etc handmade by her own parents -which Hope says was the highlight of her playtime as a child. She invited my two boys and entire family into her home every Christmas time to have them Marvel at her Christmas train village. And one of the funniest memories of all time was when she came up to Payson for a Fourth of July and taught my kids, and I how to create an American flag out of Jell-O, whipped cream, blueberries, and strawberries! I remember laughing so hard I had tears in my eyes because the Jell-O didn´t set quite right!

Most of all, I will remember LINDA´s unconditional love. She was the epitome of a true Christian. And she demonstrated through her life how to truly live as CHRIST wants us too. I can just picture her now when I get to go to be with Jesus in paradise and I will see LINDA with her arms open wide for a hug and that unforgettable smile and bright eyes and she will welcome me home! I look forward to the day that I will be with her, Jesus and all my loved ones someday in paradise! We love you so much Linda.

42 years ago, we moved into our house next to the Brittain's. Linda was the perfect neighbor. How we shared things, put things on the fence for each other, played games and so on......I miss having her to talk to, but I know she is in a good place. My deepest condolences to the family.

I loved working with Linda at Sunset. She helped me when I came as Project Potential teacher and I helped with Safety Kids. I enjoyed game nights at her house and attending puppetry events. Linda brought joy to many and was an inspiration to many staff members and students.

I loved laughing with Linda at Sunset and our wonderful retirement lunches . What a very special lady . I am sure she has already started to organize puppet shows in Heaven or helping someone with a computer glitch . Loved working with her for so many years .
