Linda Dapper Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 18, 2025.
Linda Margaret Romaine Dapper died after a short illness on January 30, 2025. Linda was born in Warren, Ohio on May 7, 1944, to Howard William Romaine and Mary Margaret Dillman. She was the second of four girls. Her favorite childhood memories were from her time in Toms River, New Jersey. Stories about cookies kept in a trunk on the back porch, floating in the Atlantic Ocean, and working on the Boardwalk selling pizza were some of her favorites.

She married Timothy Allen Dapper in December 1963, moved to Flint Michigan and had two children, Gwendolyn and Marilyn.

It was then that Linda started her years of service. She was very active in Flint Open School and sent both of her children to school there. Linda was elected to the Flint Board of Education for a two-year term in 1977. In 1980, she was appointed to the Mideastern Michigan Library Cooperative Board, as its first president. She served on that board for five years.

Finding her calling as a research interviewer in the 1980s fit right into her dedication to service. She worked on many government surveys including NAEP, the Nation's Report Card and NHANES, the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Her position of Supervisor of Research Interviewers for NHANES allowed her to travel around the United States, including Alaska. This position required her to move every 3 months. Linda loved it.

She retired in 2006, moved to her service to the Democratic Party where she was an active tweeter on Twitter. When she moved into the Enclave in Cedar Park, Texas in 2018, Linda again stepped up to serve. She became president of the Resident Council and started publishing their inhouse newsletter, The Double Scoop. She served her community until her death.

Linda never met a person who wasn't a friend. She loved to travel, and she always gave the best advice. She collected Belleek, wrote a book for her grandson Sean, and loved helping the people in Memory Care in her building. Linda was an excellent baker, known for her pies and chocolate coffee cake. She was a devoted mother, and grandmother.

Linda leaves behind her sisters Connie and Denise, her daughter's Gwen and Marilyn, and grandsons Sean, Julian, and Jacob. Her sister Barbara proceeded her in death. Her death leaves a hole in our hearts.
