Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 1, 2002.
CONCORD -- Linda Duck Tanenbaum, 53, wife of Sanford L. Tanenbaum, lived every day to the fullest, despite a severe heart condition that she had dealt with since birth. Linda died Thursday, May 30, at Duke University Medical Center, from complications following a heart-lung transplant.
Linda was born on August 10, 1948, to Dr. & Mrs. W. Otis Duck, and grew up in Mars Hill, N.C. She graduated from Mars Hill College in 1970 and received her Masters of Fine Arts in Theater from the University of Georgia and her Masters in Library Science from the University of Missouri. She moved to Winston-Salem in 1985, working for the Forsyth County Library system, first as head of the branch in Clemmons, and later as Children's Librarian at the main branch in downtown Winston-Salem. She also worked for a short time as librarian for Westchester Academy in High Point. At the time of her death, she was a columnist for the Charlotte Observer.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her mother, Mrs. Betty M. Duck, who resides at Brookridge Retirement Center in Winston-Salem; her aunt, Mrs. Dorothy M. Trivette, who also resides at Brookridge; her sister, Rosalind Duck Gentry and her husband Dwight who live in Winston-Salem; and her brother, Dr. Sigsbee W. Duck and his wife Cindy, who live in Gillette, WY. She also leaves three nieces and two nephews who loved her dearly, Courtney and Keith Chostner of Winston-Salem, and Marguerite, Riley and Zachary Duck of Gillette, WY. In addition, she is survived by two stepchildren, Lance Cpl. Yosef A. Tanenbaum, USMC, and Ya'el Tanenbaum of Los Angeles, California.
Her family and friends will celebrate her life on Sunday, June 2, at 3:00 p.m., at Central United Methodist Church, 30 Union Street North, in Concord, N.C. The family will receive friends at the church from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. prior to the service. A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 3, at 11:00 a.m. at the Mars Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Mars Hill, N.C.
In lieu of flowers, Linda requested that memorials be made to the Southern Appalachian Repertory Theatre (SART) at Mars Hill College, Mars Hill, NC 28754, or the charity of one's choice.

My dearest buddy, classmate, and friend for 35 years. Her stories, imagination and loyalty will be missed by hundreds of people. Her laughter will be missed the most.
