Lisa Santalucia Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 3, 2025.
Lisa Rae Santalucia, age 62, of Port St. Lucie, Florida, formerly of Readington, New Jersey passed away peacefully in hospice care on July 1, 2025, with her family by her side, after a 15-year courageous battle with a rare form of cancer. Lisa was born on November 6,1962 to George and Bernice Steckert in Newark, New Jersey and grew up in Sayreville, New Jersey.

She was a 1981 graduate of Sayreville War Memorial High School and a 1986 graduate of Rutgers College of Pharmacy. She had been pharmacist for 34 years until her retirement to Florida nearly 5 years ago.

Lisa met her beloved husband Ron in high school. They had been together since their college years at Rutgers and had been happily married for more than 38 years. They lived briefly in Robbinsville and Old Bridge before building their dream home in Readington. They spent the next 28 years there, during which time they excitedly welcomed their son, Nicholas, and their daughter, Tara, into the family.

Lisa was fiercely protective of her family and never missed any of Nick's basketball and baseball games or Tara's cheerleading competitions. Although Lisa had many interests, nothing was more important to her than being a mom and a wife.

She absolutely adored Pomeranians, and there was not a single year of her marriage when she did not have at least one - and had more than a dozen over the years. She even periodically came home with them to the surprise of the rest of her family!

Lisa was incredibly talented and creative. She could build and fix almost anything, from kitchen cabinets, tiling floors, to making curtain and drapes. Store-bought Halloween costumes did not exist in her world as she ensured her children had her own custom-made creations. She loved to garden and had an extensive collection of orchids in her Florida home.

Lisa loved to travel and along with her husband, visited all 7 continents and more than 60 countries. This included trips to Australia, Cuba, Russia, Morocco, Antarctica, and her very favorite, Sicily.

Outside of her more obvious interests and passions, she enjoyed, playing mah-jonng, trivia nights, cruises, Italian food, trips to Home Goods, sangria, reading books on her Kindle, and keeping Amazon Prime in business.

She equally treasured her New Jersey and Florida friends and family, who have been incredibly supportive during her journey.

As reinforced by her doctors and nurses, her kindness showed through even during her most difficult times. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Lisa was predeceased by her father, George Steckert Sr., and her brother, George Steckert Jr. Surviving are her loving husband, Ronald Santalucia of Port St. Lucie, Florida, her son Nicholas Santalucia and his fianc Andria Gomez, of Crestview, Florida, her daughter, Tara Santalucia and her fianc John O'Reilly, of Park Ridge, New Jersey, her mother, Bernice Steckert, her sisters Jill Veit (Eric), Nanci Bleakley, and Linda Krumbine (Fred), her brother-in-law, Martin Santalucia (Theresa) and several nieces and nephews.

Lisa was a member of St. Lucie Catholic Church in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Arrangements will be private and at a later date. Lisa was a proud supporter of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations may be made in her name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital; https://www.stjude.org/donate

I had the honor and pleasure of meeting Lisa in 2007 on our first day of training at Express Scripts. We were a small tight knit group (Rashaun, Nelly, Lisa and me (Jaklin)) who hit it off instantly. Immediately we shared stories of not only work but our personal and family lives. I knew right away that she was a remarkable wife and mother (to her kids and her pomeranians) because of all the funny and incredible stories she shared about them. Over the course of those 10 years we worked together we communicated constantly about work and our family lives. We made wonderful memories together, shared endless stories about our families, and endured the roller-coaster ride that came with our job. I came to Lisa often for guidance and advice regarding work, family, home improvements etc. and she was always there for me. Though our jobs came to an abrupt end in 2017, we all managed to stay in touch and continued giving updates on our lives. I was so happy for her when she moved to Florida to start her next chapter and I told her I would join her there someday when I retire (which never happened). We continued to share pictures and stories about our kids and celebrated all their milestones and achievements. I will miss that so much. Lisa was such a remarkable person and I admired her greatly. I was so sad to hear about her passing. I will miss my cherished co-worker and dear friend. She was so strong - a true fighter. My deepest and sincerest condolences to Ron, Nick and Tara.

I'm so very sad to hear of Lisa's passing. I worked with her for a short time in a pharmacy in NJ. She was a great encourager and enthusiastic about everything she did. I admired her love of life and the energy she put into all she did. Praying for you Ron, Tara and Nick, for comfort and peace.

I am so very sorry to hear of Lisa´s passing. We grew up in the same Sayreville neighborhood together, I was a few years younger than her and our families were friends. Lisa was my pharmacy mentor; convinced me to go to Rutgers Pharmacy, got me my first pharmacy job at Pathmark and I followed behind her and worked at the East Brunswick and Hopelawn Pathmark´s with her for many years. There´s so much to thank her for. I always admired so much about her and her beautiful life and family. She was so inspiring because of all the wonderful things she did and hobbies she had in her life. I have some truly wonderful memories of Lisa and will cherish them forever. May God bless her and all of you.

Dear Ron, Nick, Tara, and Family,

We are devastated and can't even fathom what is going through all of your minds right now.
We are so sorry for your- and all of our- loss.

Lisa- a wonderful, smart, dedicated, tough ( sometimes)- loving, happy, funny, and great person to be around. Great friend and fierce protector of her family. She was so much fun to be around.

Ronnie- you and Lisa are the Great Love Story most people could only dream about. The Love you two have- and always had- for each other is and always was something to behold

Nick and Tara- you mom was the original "Mama Bear" when she needed to be. So involved and interested in your lives. All the games, dances, anxieties- let's not forget parties....

She was a great friend to all, and we were always happy to be around her.

We realize this is hard right now, however, it is a part of lives' and loves' Great Circle.

Please take some comfort in knowing that she is now in a much better place. A place with no fear and no pain, no darkness-only light and joy.
She is in a place prepared for her by our Lord a long time ago and is readying a place where you will all see each other again one day.

Sit back and smile when you think about your mom. She deserves it.

As we write this now- as sad as we are, we are smiling thing of her and all our Readington times together with her and your family. We are lucky to have known her.

God Bless You all- We hope you can find some peace throughout all of this.
