Lisa Talmage Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 12, 2007.
MASHPEE - Lisa Talmage, 47, died peacefully, on March 10, 2007, at Cape Cod Hospital, from complications of pneumonia. Wheelchair bound since 2002, Lisa was an inspiration for many with her humor, dry wit and zest for life.

Born on July 29, 1959, Lisa was raised in Willow Grove, Pa., and attended local schools. She graduated from Gettysburg College in 1981 with a business degree. Lisa moved to Washington, D.C., and worked for the Marriott Corp., Tour and Travel Division. She was married in East Orleans, to Luis Coppa of Washington in 1983, and became ill with cancer later that year. Lisa moved permanently to her parent's home in East Orleans in 1985, and later with her mother to Mashpee in 1992.

Among family and friends, Lisa was known for her skills in computer graphics, big heart, and patience with many physical complications. She was surrounded by the love of many, including her personal care assistants, and in particular, the Lisa's Playmates Luncheon Group from the Mashpee Women's Club. Lisa's annual birthday parties were events not to be missed, and she reminded everyone months in advance. Lisa loved to shop, was especially good at catalogue and online shopping, as well as visits to favorite stores and the Tea Shoppe at Mashpee Commons.

A devout Catholic, Lisa worshipped at Christ the King Parish. She was also the recipient of much love and support from Sister Shirley and Sister Dympha.

Lisa is survived by her mother, Grace Talmage of Mashpee; a brother, Richard Talmage of Mashpee; a sister, Jayne and brother-in-law, Tim O'Farrell of Duxbury; a nephew, Colin O'Farrell of Jackson Hole, Wyo., as well as extended family and close friends.

In lieu of flowers, Masses or memorial donations may be made to Christ the King Church in Mashpee, c/o Sister Shirley.

A Mass of Thanksgiving for Lisa's life will be held on Wednesday, March 14, at 11 a.m. Lisa will be laid to rest with her father, in a private service, in the family plot at Orleans Cemetery.

Dear Mrs. Talmage,

I would like to extend my condolences to you and your family at this difficult time. I went to high school with Lisa. Although I did not remain in touch with her over the years, I have very fond memories of Lisa. She was a very strong and courageous individual!

Dear Grace and Richard,
Lisa was more than a friend, she was an inspiration. She suffered her physical limitations with grace and dignity and never lost her delightful sense of humor.
It was a privilege to be one of Lisa's Playmates and a heck of a lot of fun too. In cribbage and Rumi-kube, as in life, Lisa played to win, and usually did.

Grace:I look to you as a model of love and dedication. Lisa could not have had a better mother or a stronger advocate. While providing the best care for Lisa you also embraced many of us who suffered difficulties in our own lives. Your love is boundless.

Richard: you have always been there for Lisa, to help in whatever way you could. You provided physical support and love to your sister.

She will be missed by many

Dear Grace,

It was with deep sadness that we learned of Lisa’s passing. She is an amazing spirit and it’s that wonderful spirit that will never die.

How fortunate Lisa was to have you to care for her. She often said that you two were joined at the hip; certainly you were joined at the heart.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Dear Talmage family. I want to extend my deep sympathy to all of you. It is a sad time and Lisa with her stories and great wit will be missed. Such a good strong person she was. She gave more to her playmates than we gave to her.It was always a fun day with her. She kept us on our toes, didn't she. Your devotion to her well being was also an inspiration to me. Love and blessings to you all. Yvonne
