Lloyd Bentley Obituary

Published by News Virginian on Mar. 30, 2013.
Lloyd Westley Bentley Lloyd Westley Bentley passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 28, 2013 in Charlottesville, Virginia. He is survived by his four children, Laurel Bentley Maddaugh and David Middaugh of Louisa, Virginia, Melanie Bentley of Richmond, Virginia, Daniel Bentley of Woodbridge, Virginia, and David Bentley and Katherine Hall Bentley of Crozet, Virginia; two stepsons, Gary Fitzgerald and Brenda Fitzgerald of Gordonsville, Virginia; and Alan Fitzgerald of Crozet, Virginia; twelve grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many extended family members. Lloyd was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley Fitzgerald Bentley in 2007. Lloyd Westley Bentley was born in Waterloo, Iowa, on September 27, 1933, the eighth child of Gordon and Irma Bentley. Lloyd served his country in Korea and Japan as a member of the United States Air Force and as a long-time member of the National Guard. Born on the family farm, Lloyd continued to farm throughout his younger life and also attended veterinarian school. In 1966, Lloyd relocated his family to Virginia after accepting a position as plant Engineer for Morton's Frozen Foods in Crozet, Virginia. Lloyd was the soul of his family. He embraced life, nurtured his children and, ever the engineer, loved nothing more than finding creative solutions to everyday problems. Ever the champion of the underdog, Lloyd's pragmatic advice and compassion for those less fortunate stayed with him throughout his lifetime and will always be remembered by those who knew him well. Lloyd was a working man. His love for children, his charm, his inquisitive nature and understated humor touched the lives of all who surrounded him. He embraced the future, ever hopeful. His infectious laughter filled the room and was immediately recognizable. He loved cruising the Blue Ridge Mountains in his convertible, black licorice, and watching a good wrestling match. The extended Bentley family will celebrate Lloyd's legacy during a memorial service at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 1, 2013, at Teague Funeral Home in Charlottesville, Virginia, with the Reverend David Collyer officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Western Albemarle Fire and Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 188, Crozet, VA 22932. Friends may sign a guest register at teaguefuneralhome.com.

To The Family

I started my administrative job with Mr. Bentley at Morton's Frozen Foods. Everyone kept warning me "to be careful, he's mean and hard to get along with." (smile) Mr. Bentley and I were always straight forward with one another and I did my job and kept the office going. Mr. Bentley and I got along just fine! I was brought up to "treat people as you would want to be treated." God will take care of Mr. Bentley and may he wrap his arms around "you all" and provide the love and comfort that you need, always!

With great symphathy
