Lloyd Brown, Jr. Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 27, 2024.
Lloyd A. Brown, Jr., 82, of Salisbury Twp., passed away peacefully on Monday, June 24, 2024. He was surrounded by his loving wife of 57 years, Maryann (Gulkewicz), and his three adoring children, Michele, Chris, and Stephanie, among others. To his family and friends, he was known by various monikers such as Brownie and Junior-but the nickname he liked most, if asked his preference, was just simply J.R. He was born in September 1941 to the late Lloyd Sr. and Esther (Schlegel).

He was a proud United States Army veteran, remarkable sports enthusiast, and loyal fan of all Philadelphia sports teams-especially the Phillies. He spent his final days relishing the fact that his beloved Phils were atop the standings with one of the best records in all of baseball. A capable athlete, he enjoyed competition of all varieties. At family reunions he was a favored quoits partner, and he anchored numerous bowling teams, once rolling a 290, and racking up multiple 700 series'.

A talented coach, he instructed youth leagues on the fundamentals of baseball, and to all of his children and grandchildren, he taught the fundamentals of life. He was always generous with his time and happy to see you, and listened much more than he talked. He demonstrated patience, kindness, and compassion in all of his interactions, which served him well as a husband, father, grandfather ("Pop"), uncle, coach, and in his career as a salesperson. He truly set the standard for how to treat others with decency and respect.

In retirement, he looked forward to dining out with his wife and family, walks with friends, tending to the yard and house, watching sports, and reading novels. All can take tremendous comfort in that he lived his best life and was loved by all who knew him.

SURVIVORS: In addition to his loving wife and children: daughter-in-law, Nadia, son-in-law, Anthony Vieni; grandchildren: Morgan, Makenna, Aidan, and Andrew; siblings: William of Mount Joy, Rickey (Faithanne) of Northampton, Kevin (Elaine) of Allentown. Predeceased by siblings: Ruth Unger, Gerald L. Brown, Larry Brown.
