Loren Nelson

December 30, 1944 - March 11, 2023 Boise, ID - Loren Nelson came into this world December 30, 1944, the joy of loving parents Madora and Rolland. His early days were spent working his family's ranch on Little Willow Creek. Receiving a degree in Agriculture from the University of Idaho, Loren was well prepared for the ranching life but a turn of events landed him as an employee of Farmers Home Administration. His rapid rise through the organization caught the eye of Senator Frank Church who walked into his office and told him he wanted to hire him with the stipulation that he become a democrat. As the age of PC was dawning, he went to work for Agricultural Management Systems creating software for family farmers. Returning to government, he was appointed Deputy Director of the Department of Labor and Industrial Services, followed by Director of the Department of Administration. From there he was appointed to head Farmers Home Administration under President Clinton, his career coming full circle. An audiophile, he also enjoyed catch and release fly fishing, photography, and spending as much time as he could with family at his cabin in New Meadows. In later years, he spent the winter months in Winterhaven California. Loren is survived by his sisters, Arlene, Fruitland, and Julie, Crestline, California, sons, Rick and his fianc?e, Trina, Fruitland, Brett, McCall, and Chad and his wife Pam, Beaverton, Oregon, his wife, Coleen, Fruitland and Winterhaven, California, stepdaughter, Heidi, Boise, stepson, David and his wife Crystal, Middleton, grandchildren, Hope, Jonathan, Alyssa, Celie, Meg, Miranda and Chase and great grandsons Declan and Caden. Loren departed this world on March 11, 2023, with his loving family near. Per his wishes, a full body donation was made to Science Care. His ashes will be scattered at a later time by family members.
