Lorraine Happ Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 20, 2025.
Lorraine Marie "Laurie" Happ UPPER Lorraine Ohning Happ passed away peacefully on August 19th, having just celebrated her 99th birthday. Lorraine (Laurie) was the daughter of Charles and Lillian Ohning born August 4, 1926 in Baltimore Maryland. She was raised in Roselle Park NJ where she remained until she went to college at Ohio University in Athens Ohio. Shortly after arriving on campus, she met the love of her life Lieutenant Paul Happ who had just come back to Ohio at the end of World War II. They fell in love at first sight and remained deeply in love until his passing in 2008. They had two daughters: Deb Happ and Chris McMurray. Laurie was a loving wife, wonderful mother and friend to many especially her weekly "Martini Group" here on the island. She is preceded in death by her parents Charles and Lilian Ohning, her brother Charles "Don" Ohning and her beloved husband Paul Happ. Laurie is survived by both daughters, Deb and her husband Dick Rost and Chris and her husband Randy Meyer as well as her nephews Carl Happ and John Matesich, nieces Barb Happ and Robin Banegas, and sister-in-law Sally Ohning. Laurie lived with grace and gusto and enjoyed her last 15 years as a Galvestonian. She loved all forms of music but especially Opera. She and Paul traveled the world and she said many times how wonderful a life she had lived and that "she had no regrets". Her family is grateful for the caregivers who helped her transition comfortably and peacefully especially Arienne Neuman at Coastal Haven and the entire North Star Hospice Team. Donations in her memory should be made to any of the following: Galveston Symphony Orchestra at www.galvestonsymphony.org, the Mitchell Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases at UTMB at Memorial Tribute Page or Holy Family Parish at www.holyfamilygb.com.
