Lorraine was a neighbor who reached out to me when she learned that I had lost my companion Corgi, Taffy. Our friendship revolved around a new little Corgi named Griffin. Even though Lorraine was a cat person, she loved Griffin and he loved her. They spent many happy long walks together. She was also very kind in helping me through some hospital stays and took care of Griffin when I traveled. We will miss her. RiP dear Lotraine.

Professor Smallwood was a one of the best professors at Drexel. She would always put in the work, time and effort to help students with their classes. Professors Smallwood knew me by name which stood out to me. Walking by her in the hallway always brought me joy and a smile to my face because she would always say hi to me with my name. Professor Smallwood was an amazing person. May she rest in peace.

Lorraine was a kind, caring woman. She was a nurses nurse. Her advocacy and patience with the students was exemplary. Lorraine was a great mentor to new adjunct faculty. She was supportive to faculty in the lab to drive us toward student achievement. Lorraine was wonderful outside of the lab. She was incredibly supportive to me last year when my husband died. Lorraine mustered the students and faculty in the lab to give me the support I needed at that most difficult time. She was genuine in her compassionate in providing this support. I didn't really get the chance to say "Thank you". So I say it now. Thank you Lorraine for all you did for the students. Thank you for all you did for the faculty and staff. Thank you for brighten the day. Drexel won't be the same without you. Rest in peace knowing that a little bit of you is in every Drexel nurse who had the privilege of learning from you.

I met Prof. Smallwood 2 years ago when I first taught Physical Assessment lab. I was so nervous as I had just returned from a trip and had little time to prepare. Put of nervousness I called Prof. Smallwood at almost 9pm to ask for her. She took her time, went through every piece of information I needed and continously reassured me that she was always around to support me and that I shouldn't be worried. She often offered me words of encouragement which made me feel better as the weeks rolled by. Her passion for helping her coworkers and her students especially was so evident, and it is one of the things I truly appreciate about her. She will be dearly missed.

Lorraine was such amazing colleague and friend. We can all learn from Lorraine when it comes to compassionate caring, she gave 150% of herself to her profession. I have known Lorraine for several years working with her at Drexel University and she had the biggest heart when it came to our nursing students. She did a fabulous job with being the Lead Lab coordinator, all our nursing students benefited from generosity and kindness. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you did for your colleagues and our students.

Professor Smallwood is such an asset for Drexel University to lose. I'm thankful I got to sit in on her lab during my short 11 months in the Drexel ACE Nursing program. I'm thankful for her teachings, her advice, and her kindness. I'll never forget all of the little sandwiches she left in the fridge, because I was always one of the students who forgot their lunch.

Rest in Peace Professor Smallwood. We will remember you.

I did not personally know Lorraine because I recently came back to Drexel University, but you can tell what type of lovely person she was by what has been written about her as well as the love that many Staff Members have displayed. I have recently lost two of my loved ones, and I know how you are feeling, and I just want to give my deepest condolences to all that have known and loved her.
Sincerely, Debbie Hughey 02/06/2024

Professor Smallwood was an amazing teacher and always did so much to make sure that we would succeed. She was so kind that she even stocked the 7th floor fridge with sandwiches on our lab days just in case anyone forgot to bring lunch.
Fly high, Professor Smallwood. You will be greatly missed.

I remember the first time I met you, how you went out of your way to make me copies of papers that I should have brought from home. And after that day the rest was story. You watched me struggle, cry, complained, and stressed out but you never judged me, instead you cheer me up with a smile. It hurts to know that you will not be here when I graduate. My only consolation is that you are in a better place. Good night Professor Smallwood, keep lighting up heaven with your smile.

Lorraine was a great mentor of mine as I transitioned to being a new adjunct at Drexel. We shared the world of critical care nursing and I still use many of the tools she introduced me to. What a beloved nurse she was and I think of our times together fondly. Even over the years we didn´t see each other as often, but still would check in occasionally. Drexel was lucky to have her for so long as she truly had a passion for teaching students. I´ll miss her quick, dry humor and her upbeat demeanor, always finding the good in everything. Rest in peace dear friend. So many people are in a better place in their careers because of you.
