Lou Moro Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province from Oct. 6 to Oct. 7, 2009.

MORO Lou It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Luigi Paolo Moro. Lou was born on April 26th, 1918 in Savona, Italy and died at Burnaby Hospital on September 30th, 2009. He is predeceased by his wife Virginia and leaves behind their 4 adult children, Joanne Bydal, Marilyn Cowie (John), Greg (Marnie), Larry (Darcel) as well as 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Lou immigrated to Trail, BC at the age of 11. He excelled as an athlete especially as a goaltender in lacrosse. He served in the Canadian Navy during WW II. During his service he played goal for the United Services Lacrosse Team. He was also the Athletic Trainer for the Navy hockey team. Lou's profession was as a fancy sausage maker, but his love was working with sports teams. His work in Soccer and Lacrosse, as an athletic trainer, has been acknowledged with his 8 inductions in 5 different Halls of Fame, including the Canadian Lacrosse, Soccer and BC Sports Halls of Fame. His service to Canadian Soccer, the Vancouver Whitecaps and 86er's as well as the Vancouver Carlings lacrosse organization have left him with many true friends. Add his community work with numerous sports teams and you have a man who volunteered his time unselfishly for over 50 years. Family and friends were what made him the happiest. His open house on Boxing Day was always a highlight. Lots of food and drink, songs and laughter made lasting memories for all. After turning 91 Lou still had the best garden on the block and enjoyed driving to Brentwood to walk and visit with all the people who he would see there. He left a legacy to be proud of and he will be missed! Funeral Mass will be held Friday, October 9th 11:00 AM at St Helen's Church, 3860 Triumph St., Burnaby. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Burnaby Hospital or a charity of one's choice. On-line condolences may be offered to the family at www.bellburnaby.com .

Uncle Lou was a great man. Many times he fixed me up when I was injured.I'll always remember going to the butcher shop with my mom and watching him make sausages, and the excitement of knowing that I would get a wiener from him. The family parties, the laughter, the cousins. Uncle Bob's blinding super 8 movie camera. The generous hospitality. His gruff voice and his strong and caring hands. I am proud to have known him and I shall miss him. Peter Yunker

Lou: I'll always remember following my Dad down to your basement, usually limping, since it was most likely an ankle injury. Lou would never take any money...so my Dad would buy Lou a bottle, or do some needed plumbing.
Lou you kept me and everyone else going. Thanks again Lou.
My condolences to Lou's family.

New Year's Eve was always so much fun at Uncle Louie and Aunty Virg's house. We were so lucky to be included as adopted family members and have such great memories of them.

Love to all the Moro family from Karen Leeson (Steve Yunker's niece)

Uncle Lou,
My fondest memory was when my Dad to took me to your home to help with an injury. I was in awe at who you were and what you experienced in your life by what surrounded me on your basement walls. I think you were a great man, whom I looked up to and was proud to have known. May you rest in peace
My sincrest condolences to all of Lou's family.
