Louis Thomas Guzzi Sr., 89 years old, passed away peacefully, March 1, 2023, after a traumatic injury at home. He resided in Clarks Summit, Pa., for most of his life and most recently lived in Scranton. He was preceded in death by the true love of his life, C. Marlene Jones Guzzi, to whom he was married for 48 years.
Lou was born in Clarks Summit on Sept. 2, 1933, to Mary Nardella Guzzi and Albert Andrew Guzzi. He is survived by many loving individuals, including his children and spouses, Lou and Maureen Guzzi, Dunmore, Mary Jackson and Mark Ogozaly, Moscow, Catherine and Jimmy Beck, Dalton and Ann and Joe Kopicki, Mesa, Arizona. Beloved siblings and spouses are Joseph and Romayne Guzzi and Albert and Betty Lou Guzzi.
His sister, Adeline, passed away many years ago.
He was the proud "papa" of many grandchildren, step-grandchildren as well as great-grandfather to many more. It was a privilege for us to call him Daddy, Papa and Brother.
Lou had a commendable school record and was valedictorian of his graduating class. He also held American Legion, National Honor Society and National Athletic Honor Society and Babe Ruth awards. Lou graduated from Abington High School and attended the University of Scranton.
Baseball, (Philadelphia Philles) was his true love although football, (Fly Eagles Fly) was a close second. He proudly served his country in the Army and National Guard and was a former member of the Clarks Summit VFW. Lou was employed many years in retail management and served 22 years at Clarks Summit State hospital retiring as an occupational therapist. He received an award in 1996 as "employee of the year" for which he was so proud!
Lou loved our Lord and Heavenly Father. He was an altar boy at Our Lady of Snows, Clarks Summit, and went on to be a lector, usher and Eucharistic minister at St. Gregory's where he was a charter member. After retirement he took great joy in caring for his wife Marlene and Mother Mary. He also worked for meals on wheels, Rohrer Bus Company and Northeast Eye. He was a true example of a servant's heart!
The funeral will be conducted on Tuesday from the Solfanelli-Fiorillo Funeral Home Inc., 1030 N. Main Ave., with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am in the Church of St. Gregory, 300 N. Abington Road, Clarks Green. Interment with Military Honors to follow in Cathedral Cemetery. All attending the funeral are kindly asked to proceed directly to church. Friends and family may pay their respects Monday from 4-7 p.m. in the funeral home.
