Louise Talley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Sep. 15 to Sep. 17, 2023.
Stockton - Louise Carol Settle Talley passed away peacefully at O'Connor Woods in Stockton on August 26, 2023, with family members by her side.

Louise was born in 1932 in New Haven, Connecticut to Mary Louise and Edwin Settle. Her father received his Ph.D. in Theology from Yale University and then became a Minister in New Haven. Louise had fond memories of summers spent on a small lake in Maine. Her father volunteered for the Army during WWII and served as a Chaplain in Europe and Japan. During that time Louise and her mother lived with family in St. Petersburg, FL, where her mother taught high school. After the war, her father was a professor of Religion and Philosophy at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where Louise finished high school. She then studied nursing at the University of Colorado where she met her future husband, Robert Talley. After their marriage in 1954, Louse worked as a public health nurse while Bob completed his medical training at the University of Iowa. Their sons, Robert, Jr. and Ted were born in Iowa before they moved to Stockton in 1964 when Bob opened his Gastroenterology practice. This was the beginning of lifelong friendships and service to the Stockton community. Bob passed away in 2014. Louise continued to live independently at their home on Lincoln Road until moving to O'Connor Woods in 2021. At O'Connor Woods, she loved getting together with friends and enjoyed her daily walks.

Bob and Louise traveled with friends throughout the United States and Europe and enjoyed family trips to Tahoe and Hawaii. Louise and Bob had a love for the arts. They were season ticket holders to ACT in San Francisco, long time supporters of the Stockton Symphony and often hosted out-of-town musicians.

Louise was active in PEO (RC), The San Joaquin Medical Alliance, Junior League, Stockton Symphony Alliance, Haggin Museum Guild, 19th Century Club, ALSOA, and Mary Graham Hall. In 2009 she was named Stockton Symphony Alliance Member of the Year and in 2010 she was awarded the Medical Alliance Member of the Year.

Louise loved her family and friends. She enjoyed meaningful and thoughtful conversations about current and cultural events. We will all miss her gracious and kind ways.

Louise is survived by her family, Robert Jr, (Kim) of Napa, CA, and Ted (Beth) of Stockton. Grandchildren, Caroline Hale (Jake) of Tiburon, CA, Emily Hoye (Andreas) of Oslo Norway, Nick Talley (Jordan) and Andrew Talley all of Pismo Beach, CA. Great- Grandchildren, Lily Louise Hale, Felix and Stella Hoye, Eli, Noah, and Abigail Talley, Cousin Robert (Margaret) Settle of Danville, CA.

A Celebration to honor Louise will be held on October 5th from 1-3 pm at the Brookside Country Club.

In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Haggin Museum, Stockton Symphony, or St Joseph's Hospital.

My husband, Dr. Thomas A. Thomas, worked with Dr. Robert Talley for many years. We enjoyed several trips with Bob & Louise in the past. Louise was a wonderful person - so kind and friendly to all. My fondest memory of Louise was when she and I rode camels together in front of the pyramids in Giza, Egypt. Here is a picture of her that I took that day. I'll always remember her fondly.
