WASHBURN, Lowell L., 82, of Marble, N.C., died Saturday, March 3, 2007, in a Murphy, N.C., care facility. He was a native of Edgeley, N.D., but had lived in Cherokee County for the past 14 years. He was the son of the late Lowell L. and Ellen Studebaker Washburn, and husband of the late Frances Koopman Washburn. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Air Force in the European Theatre. He was also a Korean War veteran. Lowell retired later from the Hillsborough County, Fla., Sheriff' s Department. Lowell was a lifetime member of American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was a member of Saint Luke Episcopal Church in Blue Ridge, Ga. He was an avid bowler. He was also preceded in death by a son, Robert Washburn. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Hartwig Washburn; a daughter, Patricia Halling of Tampa; two sons, Jerry and Thomas Washburn, both of Tampa; and eight granddaughters. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2007, at Saint Luke Episcopal Church in Blue Ridge, with the Rev. Victor Morgan officiating. Interment will be at the church cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the North Georgia Honor Guard from Blue Ridge, Ga. Pallbearers will be Ralph Barnard, Maurice West, Roy Gilbert, Joe Brandon, Joe Morrow and Jere McConnell. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Lowell Washburn to a charity of your choice. Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, is in charge of all arrangements.
