I finally met the lovely Luette when we moved to Seminary at Andrews. I had heard about her from her parents (who used to park their Airstream in our driveway during APC) as well as many family members, including Gary and Gordon who thought she was a beauty.
We met when they lived at the cottage on the lake. They invited us for Friday night when they always had tacos--had we ever heard of them? They were of course, our favorite!
From that night we were kindred spirits. We were both newlyweds and had not started our families.
Luette turned out to be a woman with hidden talents. The 4 of us went camping; all of us novices except of course, the lovely Luette. In no time she had the campsite set up--she even knew how to use one of those little camp stoves. Next day we rented an aged wooden rowboat. At some point we were "becalmed" and wanted to go ashore. Gary gave rowing a try then Terry attempted it. We seemed to sort of go in circles. Then the intrepid (and still lovely) Luette applied her dainty hands and impossibly slender arms to the oars. She took a bead and rowed us straight to shore! She claimed her Dad taught her. It was quiet going back.
Your sweet lady was the most humble, compassionate and loyal person I have ever known. She was also funny, talented and beautiful. It was my privilege to call her friend and family.

My appreciation for Mrs. Cowell came late in my SVA career- my senior year. I took a class with her, (home-something or other??) and it quickly became the favorite part of my day. That respite I got from being in her room and learning skills, talking, being listened to, it was amazing. She was so kind and funny and showed us all sorts of things I never knew I'd like (basket weaving!). Then when my friendship grew with Jon and Emily I truly learned what a special person she was. Not to mention her cooking, but everyone has mentioned that already. I mean, her and Mrs. Shull as our lunch ladies? Dreamy. She will be missed on this earth. xoxo

When I was a HS student at SVA, I became ill during a ski trip. She volunteered to stay back with me. I spent an entire day in the lodge with this lovely woman. We stayed in our sleeping bags and talked and talked. She listened to my teenage "traumas" and made some tea for me and probably breakfast and lunch too. I will never forget how kind she was, or her warm, beautiful smile. She was Loved very much by all of her students. I miss her and can hardly wait to see her again! To her family, I am so sorry for your unspeakable loss!

Luette became a beloved Friend..and she gave me such a wonderful new perspective of life ..taught me many new projects to Sew .Since my passion of sewing crocheting and baking...we soon learned we had a lot in commen ..Her love of God and her sense of sharing that love with others spilled over in all she did .We both felt the Girls project In Africa was A God given work for us to do ..I was very determined to help her..Faster then she would bring me the supplies to my house...I would call and say I am done....What she say ..yep bring me some more....She tickled me ..her laugh and Joy ..at the idea I was so into sewing I'd get our project finished so fast ...I will truly miss Luette bunches.and bunches...Looking forward to seeing Her smile in heaven....I send my love and Hugs to the Family...I grew to love as well..and so glad to have gotten the gift of Knowing There Mom ....she was a treasure..a real Joy to know and love ...

One of the last things she said to us was she was "trusting" the Lord. I am so grateful that one day we will be reunited to never ever say "goodbye" again. Treasured memories to cherish and hold tightly in our hearts. Missing her . . .
