Funeral services for Lupe Yates, 50, of Nacogdoches will be held Thursday, September 20, 2012 at 10 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Brother Ronnie Frankens, John Laird, and Sheriff Kent Henson officiating. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. in the Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center. Mrs. Yates was born October 27, 1961 in Patterson, California, and died Monday, September 17, 2012 in a Nacogdoches hospital. She had resided in Nacogdoches for 17 years and had worked at the Angelina County Sheriff's Department for 26 years. Lupe greatly enjoyed cooking, talking and visiting with friends, and spoiling her kids. Survivors include her husband, Michael Carroll Yates of Nacogdoches; son and daughter-in-law, John Laird and Sarah St. John of Austin; daughter and son-in-law, Joni Laird and Danny Lilly of Nacogdoches; mother, Marcela (Garcia) Guzman of Raymondville; father, Jose B. Garcia of Weslaco; sister, Pat Garcia of Houston; brothers, Tony Garcia of Raymondville, Jose Garcia of New Caney and Tim Guzman of Raymondville; father of John and Joni, Wade Laird of Hudson; Angelina County Sheriff's Office family; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her sister, Lillian Cavazos; and mother-in-law, Barbara Yates. Pallbearers will be Jerry Redd, Bryan Holley, Danny Anders, Mike Jones, Bart Riley and Dale Childress. Honorary pallbearers will be Tammy Holley, JoVina Harris, Dana Vanya and Tamishea Shewmake. Memorial contributions may be made to the Family Crisis Center, 2401 Davisville Road, Lufkin, Texas 75901.
