Lydia Kowalski

Lydia Kowalski, age 91, passed away peacefully, at her home in Erie, on Wednesday, February 11, 2015, surrounded by her family. She was born August 19, 1923, in Donetsk, Ukraine, the daughter of the late Anton and Anna Sidorowa, and emigrated to the United States in 1950.

Lydia was a parishioner of St. Casimir Church, and worked at Swanson-Erie Corp. for 18 years. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, dancing the polka, her dogs, and most importantly, her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ludwig Kowalski, in 1978; son, Edward Kowalski, in 2008; and granddaughter, Anna Kowalski, in 1998.

Survivors include her children: Victoria Dougan and her partner, Loren Davis, of Santa Rosa, Calif., Victor Kowalski and his wife, Ruth, of McKean, Pa., Elizabeth Kowalski and her husband, William Osterberg, of Lake City, Pa.; and James Kowalski and his partner, Melissa Lewkowicz, of Fairview, Pa.; her longtime companion, Harry Bierley; and her grandsons, Gregory and Daniel Kowalski.

Friends may call at Brugger Funeral Home & Crematory, 845 East 38th Street, Monday, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., and may attend services there Tuesday at 12:15 p.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Casimir Church, 629 Hess Avenue, at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
