LYNDA KENNEDY, 68 ROCKFORD - Lynda

Kennedy, 68, of Rockford passed away Friday, September 18, 2015. She was born March 20, 1947, in Dixon, IL; the daughter of Marvin and Mary (Meschnig) Peterson. Lynda was a graduate of Dixon High School and received her bachelors from the University of Illinois. She married Todd Kennedy on Dec. 22, 1968, in Dixon. Lynda worked as a speech pathologist in the Rockford Public Schools. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. Lynda was also involved in several organizations including the Chi Omega Sorority, former President of Junior League of Rockford, ET Chapter of PEO, and was a volunteer tutor at Marsh Elementary School. She enjoyed swimming, playing and teaching Mahjong. Lynda was passionate about knitting and cooking for her friends and family. She loved vacationing at her summer home in Lake Charlevoix, Michigan. Lynda was a "converted" Wisconsin Badger fan. She was a loving wife, mom, sister, and wonderful "Nonny" to her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Honorable Judge Todd Kennedy; sons, Stephen (Tina) Kennedy of Arlington Heights, IL and David (Dana) Kennedy of Kirkland, WA; grandchildren, Ava, Elyse, Claire and Grace; sisters, Peggy Hamilton and Carol (Lowell) Roberts; and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her brother-in-law, Don Hamilton. The family would like to thank VNA Hospice staff and In Touch Home Care Services, specifically Adrienne for all the love and care they gave Lynda. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 24, 2015, in Christ United Methodist Church, 4509 Highcrest Rd., Rockford, with Pastor Jane Easley officiating. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, September 23, 2015, in Olson Funeral & Cremation Services, Ltd., Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 Second Ave., Rockford. Memorials to Jr. League of Rockford, 4118 Pinecrest Rd., Rockford, IL 61107 or Discovery Center Museum, 711 N. Main St., Rockford, IL 61103. I remember when Lynda and I were on something together at Highland School.......And Miss Sullivan called us into her OFFICE.....woo was I glad Lynda was there with me...she always had such a presence about her and I needed her at that time.
