DANVILLE, N.H. — Mabel Mitchell, 103, died suddenly at the Rockingham County Nursing Home, Brentwood, N.H. on Sunday, May 25, 2008 after a short illness.
Mabel C. Mitchell was born in Marblehead on Aug. 26, 1904 to Charles and Marjorie Cooksey.
She is predeceased by her parents, one sister, Dorothy Sands and five brothers, Arthur, Thomas, Frederick, Henry and Ralph Cooksey. She is also predeceased by her husband, Ernest, whom she married in 1928 and is also predeceased by her son, Richard Mitchell of Riverview, Fla.
Mrs. Mitchell leaves her daughter, Margery Bradley and her son-in-law, Donald of Northwood, N.H.;, her four grandchildren, Steven Bradley and his wife, Susan of Martha's Vineyard, Lynn Archer and her husband, Vinal of Northwood, N.H., David Mitchell and his wife Lisa of Dunstable, and Gregg Mitchell of Florida. She leaves five great grandchildren, Timothy Archer, Francis Mitchell and Richard, Kristopher and Lindsay Mitchell. She also leaves her daughter-in-law, Patricia Mitchell of Riverview, Fla.
Before moving to Danville, N.H. 17 years ago, Mabel lived in Peabody for 45 years. Prior to that she resided in Lynn and Marblehead.
During her "younger years" while raising two children with her husband, she worked in the restaurant business, first as a waitress, then as a hostess, and finally as a manager. She worked for Anthony Athanas of "Anthony's Hawthorne Restaurant" in Lynn, where she became manager. She also managed "Pier 4" in Boston, also owned by Mr. Athanas, at the time of its opening for a short while before returning to her position at "The Hawthorne" in Lynn where she worked for 25 years.
ARRANGEMENTS: At her request there will be no calling hours or service and burial will be at Waterside Cemetery in Marblehead at a date yet to be determined by her family. I never had the opportunity to meet Mabel, but I have heard many good stories of her over the years. I extend my sincere condolences to her family. May she rest in peace!

MABEL WAS A UNIQUE PERSON. I HAVE KNOWN HER FOR 55 YEARS. IN ALL THAT TIME SHE NEVER CHANGED.WE ALL KNEW WHERE WE STOOD WITH HER. SHE SAID WHAT SHE THOUGHT AND NEVER PUT ON AIRS. SHE WILL BE MISSED AND NEVER FORGOTTEN

Mabel was one of a kind lady, I will always remember our special talks we had. She would always share her life memories with me and recite poems. Mabel will always have a special place in my heart. Peace be with her and her family. Cindy, (caregiver).
