Mansur Zarraby ,MD Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 17 to Feb. 18, 2023.
Dr. Mansur Zarraby of Powell, Ohio, passed away peacefully February 9th at the age of 85. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Shahla Moinzadeh, daughters Roya Zarraby and Neda (Kambiz) Zarraby Yazdani, and his grandchildren, Ayla, Tara, Darya, Saba, and Kamran. Mansur is pre-deceased by his parents, Raheem Zarraby and Robabeh Davoodi, and sister Malihe Khademi.

Born in Shiraz, Iran, on April 16th, 1937, and raised in Isfahan, Iran, from the age of 6. He was born into a merchant family; however, because of his passion for higher education, he went on to graduate from the University of Tehran Medical School in 1964. Upon graduation, he served in the National Medical Corps of Iran for 2 years providing medical service to the people who lived in remote rural villages. After his service, Mansur recognized the opportunity to work as a physician in the United States due to the ongoing physician shortage in the 1960s. He studied English, passed multiple examinations, and was awarded a residency at the Veterans Administration in Wheeling, West Virginia and Dayton, Ohio where he provided medical care to our veterans returning from Vietnam and abroad. After residency, he completed his fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine.

Mansur and Shahla settled in Piqua, Ohio, where he established his practice and passionately provided medical care for 40 years. He was a pioneer in the critical care field, being one of the first physicians to bring ventilators and dialysis machines to the underserved community for Piqua Memorial Hospital. While in Piqua for over 40 years, Mansur and Shahla lovingly raised their daughters Roya and Neda, where they fostered a lasting community amongst their Persian friends.

Mansur's greatest achievements were the health and happiness of his wife, children, and grandchildren. Outside of his work and family, Mansur was known for his passion for the arts. He was an avid setar player of Persian classical music and loved reading and writing Persian poetry. He was notorious for his sharp and witty humor that lightened any moment.

Mansur will be remembered as a selfless person dedicated to his family, friends, and patients. He was a living example of balance. He was pragmatic yet sensitive. Doting, yet stoic. He was a kind, sweet, and gentle man who touched many lives and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

We will celebrate his life with a service at Rutherford Funeral Home in Powell, Ohio, beginning at 10:30 am on Tuesday, February 14th.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations can be made in honor of Mansur Zarraby, M.D., to www.doctorswithoutborders.org.

I worked for Dr. Zarraby in early 1970's.as a receptionist. Always thought he was the nicest man. Always calm and easy going. He was in with Dr.'s Stevens and Lowe then in Piqua, Ohio.

He diagnosed my mom almost 30 years ago of Kidney cancer. He was kind, compassionate, and caring during that very difficult time for us, me,my husband, and father all were patients of him till he retired. We remember him fondly.....sending our deepest sympathy to not only you, but to an entire community who loved and respected him.
