I was privileged to have Mrs. F. as a teacher at JRHS and she remained a model of energy and enthusiasm in my life for many years after, thanks to her faithful leadership of our alumni handbell choir. My last memory of Mrs. F. was her smiling acceptance of a well-deserved standing ovation at the JRHS reunion in 2005. Peace to the family and may you find comfort in the memories, as I will.

To the entire Farquharson family:

I was saddened to hear about the passing of a wonderful teacher and choir leader. She will certainly be missed and remembered fondly by all of her former students, who number in the thousands. There are so few individuals like Mrs. Farquharson who make such a positive impact on the lives of so many. My thoughts are with the family...

To Mr. Farquharson and family, please accept my deepest condolences on the passing of Mrs. F. I will always remember her warm smile and bubbly personality roaming the halls of JRHS. I looked forward every day to go to the music room, and spending time learning from her. She had so much energy and passion and poured it into each and everyone of her students. She truly was an inspiration to me, and made my years at John Rennie the best they could be. Rest in Peace Mrs. F

My sympathy to Mr F and Family. I heard of Mrs F passing from an old Rennie friend via Facebook. I mourn for your loss of a great person. Mrs F was very kind to me, often giving me a lift to Rennie in the morning. She was a great teacher, a generous and kind person. She showed me the joy of song and the wonderful camaraderie of choir. God Bless, Mrs F...

Deepest sympathy to all Mrs. F's loved ones. She was a lady of great energy, committment and kindness...her high expectations made demands on all her students and taught us about more than just music. We are all better people for having known her.

Keith and family:

Though I met Peggy only once (at the JRHS reunion in '05), I knew of her wonderful impact on students through my friend Eleanor Paice Newsome. My condolences to you all, and especially to you Keith. Sitting and chatting with you while Wally conducted the JRHS band (for the last time) at Expo 86 is one of the favourite moments of my life. Peace.

It was wonderful to see Mrs. F. At the JRHS reunion several years ago. Choir and band were what made high school special for me. I still have the harmonies for some of those songs in my head. Singing is still a big part of my life. Our whole family sings in choirs, and my eldest studies voice at McGill.

Dear Farquharson Clan,

I was very sorry to hear of "Mrs. F"'s death and the previous entries are certainly tributes to a great lady. She continues to have a great impact on many, many people's lives. For example, I know that to this day I often think about choir with Mrs. F (especially when I hear handbells or songs like The Lion Sleeps Tonight or In Excelsis Deo, and I know that the choir was taught correctly if they say "egg shell sis" ;-). Rejoice in the fact that she was a fantastic lady and a little bit of her lives on in us all.

Dear Carol, Cam and Mr. Farquharson, please accept my heartfelt condolences. I'm glad to have the opportunity to say how much Mrs. Farquharson enhanced my years at John Rennie High School and how fondly I remember your whole family. We had many wonderful times together. I miss you all.

Dear Cam,
My condolences to you and your family on the passing of your Mom. I never met her but judging from the wonderful tributes she must have been a very special person. She must have been proud to have helped raise an upstanding son like you. It was a distinct honour and pleasure to have played basketball with and against you in the old League of Gentlemen.

To Keith and family; I knew Peggy as both her pupil and her fellow teacher. Working with her at JRHS was a highlight in my life and seeing you both again in 2005 at the reunion was very special. She not only taught her students to love music, but also to love and respect each other as persons. Phil and I grieve with you.

My sincere condolences to the family. Mrs. F. was simply one of the best teachers one could ever have. Because of her and Uncle Wally the school for many years had one of the best music departments anywhere. I still recall my first music class with her in gr. 7, and how we went over to the band room and she told Wally "this young man says he likes to play drums" and they let me loose to demonstrate, and then I suddenly found myself in the band! I am still making a living playing music today, and that kind of encouragement at school helped set the course. I was so glad to see her at the 2005 at the reunion, and she will be forever in my memories.

Please accept our deepest condolences.

I have such happy memories of Peggy....

Carol & I met at Chateaux Lake Louise and became quick friends. When Cath, Marian, and I began living together in Kingston, we first met Carol’s dear mom. She dropped in with Keith (to inspect the premises, no doubt!) and was (I hope) reassured that Carol had chosen to live with a nice group of girls. Peggy was quick to share some helpful domestic tips as we embarked on living in our own apartment for the first time. I smile when I think of her teaching us about the benefits of the blade roast, i.e. its affordability & versatility. As I recall, she used a drawing to show us how to get several different cuts of meat from one large roast. I will forever think of Peggy when I look at cuts of meat in my "Joy of Cooking"!

I also remember her well around the time of Marian & Terry's wedding and the beautiful cake she made.

Another happy memory is Carol and Ken’s wedding. I recall her pride and grace as "The Mother of the Bride" and the magnificent backyard reception, hosted by Keith & Peggy.

I am glad that Brian & I had the opportunity to cross paths with Peggy a number of times in her later years, as well. My last memories of Peggy are of her with Keith close by her side... What a devoted, loving husband you have been, Keith! She was a lucky woman, indeed.

Enjoy celebrating her life, all the fond memories, and the many wonderful gifts she gave you and her students. A life well lived!

Our thoughts are with you at this time.

With deepest sympathy, Brian, Jane, Lisa, Michael, and Randi

Dear Carol, Cam, Mr Farquharson and all your dear family
My heart is heavy to know that one of my most beloved teachers, perhaps my most loved, has passed on. My years in music and Festival Ensemble with your Mom/Wife were so wonderful and so very memorable. I recall, with a smile, the summer BBQs at your home, selling apples in the fall, lunch in the music room, the music trips, the winning competitions and singing until my soul soared free ~ all facilitated by my relationship with this wonderful woman. Solace is found in the fact that She spent ninety-six years on this earth spreading her own unique brand of joy to so, so many. My last visit with Her was at the 2005 JRHS reunion when I had the opportunity to sit with Her, hug Her and chat with Her while sitting in the JR Great Hall. She was so special to me. I am sad, but I know She is out there somewhere and we will meet again.
With Love and Blessings
Brenda

Mrs Farquharson was a HUGE part of many, many young peoples' lives. She was so gentle, caring, and loving. She will be missed. My heart is with your family.
