Margaret Pufahl Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 14, 2014.
Margaret Pufahl was born in the small town of Ortonville, Minnesota on May 10th, 1920. She was the daughter of Ross and Ruth Kaercher. She had one sibling, her older sister, Mary. She enjoyed nature and spent as much time as she could participating in outdoor activities. she truly appreciated the splendor of her surroundings.
she was fascinated with American History and related to the early settlers, through camping, fishing, swimming and hiking activities in the natural world. Her fondest memories as a child were of camping and digging for clams with her best friends.
Upon attending Ortonville High School, she became involved in many academic pursuits including poetry, journalism, and essay declamation. It was no surprise that English was her favorite subject. It was also there that she met Arthur Pufahl, her boyfriend, whom she later married. She graduated from high school in the spring of 1939. She left home at age seventeen to attend Macalaster, a liberal arts college. She had received a scholastic scholarship which helped to facilitate her pursuit of a career in journalism. War times ushered in a early marriage for Margaret and Arthur on June 20th, 1940. they held a small reception at the Geneva Lodge. With the beginning of World War II, Margaret left college to be with Arthur in North Carolina until he was shipped overseas. With Arthur's return in 1946, they both moved to Denver, Colorado.
They moved to Lakewood in 1947 prepared to begin their family. First came Timmy, who was adopted in 1948. Sally arrived 13 months later in 1949. To accommodate a large family they moved to the Glens. Susie was a surprise and arrived in 1956. Because of Arthur's flourishing business, Margaret was able to concentrate on raising the children and volunteering. Both Margaret and Arthur were very giving people. They opened their house to many related family members.
Margaret resided in Colorado for 68 years. She pursued many interests including paining, pottery, gardening, birds and loved writing poetry. Margaret's faith was an important part of her life. She was a member of the Lakewood United Methodist church were she dedicated many hours teaching Sunday school and participating in many church circle groups. She shared 48 wonderful years with her deceased husband, Arthur. She was blessed with 3 wonderful children, 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
She loved life and believed that true happiness was giving to others. Her favorite quote is from Mother Theresa "I have found the paradox, that if you love until it hurts, there can be no more hurt, only more love."

My Mother will always be remembered for her love of my children by help take care of them from the time they were born. Because of her, my children have such fond memories of learning and appreciating the life around them.
I will always remember her songs she sang, sense of humor, and light heartedness.
She was always a sports fan and loved the game no matter if it was baseball, football, or even golf.
Were are going to miss her every Sunday, since we have been with her since Dad has died, for the past 25 yrs.
Now, we know she will not have to suffer any more and be free to enjoy peace with Dad, Tim and Ryan.

My Grandma was a very special person to me. I have very fond memories of the times my brother and I spent with both her and Grandpa on summer vacation. I remember making pottery, and having Easter egg hunts at the Meadowlark house. She was an avid fan of all Denver sports teams, and each time I talked with her we would discuss the situation with the Broncos.

She will always hold a special place in my heart, and I know she is at peace now with Grandpa, Dad, and Ryan.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Sally, Susie, and their families during this difficult time.

Margaret and Arthur were neighbors and very dear friends when we lived on Cody Dr. They shared their lives and family with us and were there when our children were born. Margaret always included us in her outtings to go swimming and taught us how to make pottery. We still have some of her pots!
Margaret was like a mother to me and we kept in touch for years and years. I will miss her but have been blessed to have had such a loving, caring person in my life.

My Aunt Margaret has been an important part of my life since I was born. I have a letter from her written to me at my birth that I treasure. My mother, sister and I lived with her during the war years, so I have many "little girl" memories of walking to the library, going swimming, fishing, etc. When my mother died, she was there for my sister and I, always welcoming us whenever we came or "moved in". She is the closest thing to a grandmother my daughter has ever had. My grand daughters also had a few chances to know her. She has been with me during the highs and lows of my life, always loving and always concerned. While we lived long distances apart, we stayed in close contact with visits, phone calls and the US mail. I'm not sure how I will be able to start my morning without writing my daily postcard to her. She has been my cheerleader and my role model, my reason for working at book sales, my bird watching buddy and my western weather woman. Thank you, Sally and Susie for sharing her with me. There are no words to say how much I will miss her.

How fortunate I was to have such a wonderful caring mom (Margaret Pufahl). She taught me so many lessons in life but most of all she always told me to think of others first and stay positive. I always enjoyed all the times she went on trips with my family. My favorite memories are swimming at her pool and watching her do her synchronized swimming. She was a very special person and I miss her so much! I know she is with my dad , Timmy, Ryan, her mom and dad and Mary her sister right now! Love you mom, thank you for being you!
