Margaret Stanley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Sep. 24 to Sep. 27, 2022.
Maggie (Margaret Snowden) Stanley, 63, of Arlington MA, died at home on June 15, 2022 (filed as 6/16/22). She never wanted cancer or treatment to define her, rarely played the C card, and steadfastly looked toward a living future, to the end. Born on Nov 7, 1958 to the late Peggy (Margaret) Fleming Bell Stanley and William Stanley Jr, and raised by her mother in Laurel and Columbia, MD, graduating from Oakland Mills High School in 1976. She settled in the Boston area, first working in Government Center. She later was administrative staff at Harvard University in Near Eastern Languages and the Divinity School, earned an English BA from UMass Boston, and retired as a library assistant from Harvard's Grossman Library.

Maggie was involved with Boston bike advocacy; One Less Car was her rallying cry. She loved her many rescue dogs. Hank was her Out West road trip companion, re-enacting Steinbeck's "Travels with Charley" in search of the mighty Sequoias. Into film, she worked at the Brattle Theater because hey, cool people and free screenings. With her HU buddies, she pursued softball, live bands, and Suffolk Downs nightlife. With Jennie & Mary, she pursued birds at Mt Auburn. Maggie had an uncanny knack to ferret out the unusual and share it with her circle.

Recently pre-deceased by sister Amy Anthony, brother Bob Stanley, and former brother-in-law Dick Anthony. Survived by brother Bill Stanley (Phyllis), nephews Sam Anthony (Andrea Deeker, daughters Gretel and Irma), Sean Stanley (Stephanie) and Alex Stanley, and Dick's wife, Becky Siebens. She leaves close cousins Leslie Kriebel (Chip Henderson) and Lucy Gatchell (Dexter Harding), life-long friend Sue Froehlich (Carl Schlerman, daughters Else, Marlena and Maddie), an eclectic mix of dear friends, and her beloved dogs, Jake & Kiki. All miss her terribly. Crank some John Prine, Aretha Franklin or Purcell to toast Maggie's memory.

We are grateful to her Dana Farber team for their exceptional care and loving support-shout out to Susanne, Annette, Anne, & Dr. K-and to amazing Erin of Care Dimensions Hospice.

Maggie was so much fun in high school . A fellow Scorpion field hockey player and always had a smile on her face. When I think of Maggie , I immediately see that smile . Her uplifting spirit was life changing to those around her . May she rest in eternal peace .

So sorry to hear about Maggie. We were friends in school and I always admired her calm and friendly demeanor and her incredible intellect. I believe we worked on the Yearbook together for the 3 years we were at Oakland Mills. I´m sorry we lost touch and send my condolences to all those left behind.
